Back to work after "enjoying" 2 days at home. A guy that works at local WalMart came in and said that some guy bout 230 bags of salt/de-icer-no wonder there's no product out there!

Our counties were on level 3 (where we live and where we work). I didn't feel like paying a fine!

Hope all that had power lost has it back that that ya'll are warm and toasty!

Tomorrow is World Cancer Day. On the 4th of February, 2011 the Union for International Cancer Control and its partner organisations will run campaigns all over the world to raise awareness for a disease that causes millions of deaths every year, many of which could have been prevented. You all know my feelings on cancer. It sucks.

So today, hubby was filling up at the gas station and he saw bags and bags piled up high. They were 20 lb bags but since it's so densely packed and heavy the bag is small, about the size of a 6lb dry dog food bag. Anyway, he was going to grab several until the clerk told him the price-- $30. He thought that was a bit steep. We don't usually buy salt to melt the ice because we had recently put in new blue stone front and back steps and a paver walkway and the salt ruins it. So, is the gas station just taking advantage of the situation by charging that price or is that a normal price? I've looked online and prices were cheaper.

No, Id say that price is really marked up. Worst part, they know the people really need this salt now, too.

I just have to say this about FORT:

The people here are so nice, I have to pinch myself sometimes. It's been years since I got up the nerve to post on a board after an extremely negative experience over at CBS a few years back. I disagreed with someone about something, not realizing there was a strong clique going on there, and WHAM! I was labeled a "troll" and treated terribly. I left and have never been back.

So I've been reading boards but not even considering posting until I stumbled upon this one. After reading for a while, I decided to test the waters, and it's so refreshing!

I've not seen any nasty language, no attacks against other posters...everyone seems to normal and civil What a concept!

If there is some secret forum where you guys slug it out, don't let me know, okay? Thanks for providing a safe haven for discussing reality TV.

Well, there's the food thread where the debate over with-beans vs. no-beans chili gets pretty heated... J/K -- I really enjoy how nice and relatively normal ('cuz "normal" is naught but a setting on your dryer) everyone here is, too!

Sugar mama, read the site rules and you will see that ugliness is strongly discouraged. So people who are hellbent to cause turmoil don't stay long.
About the salt thing, I have to say, if you don't keep a supply I guess you pay what you have to. Even here in GA I keep a big bag of ice cream salt for my porch when it freezes, but I go get it before we have an 'ice event' or it's all gone. I always wondered why people in hurrican prone areas don't just keep precut plywood in the shed to stick up when it gets necessary, rather than get price gouged. I've seen a few people do so, but not many. And what do they do with the plywood after they finish with it? Why not save it until next time?

I find this to be true also. Love the guidelines about language and civility. Posting now is far more fun than all the silent lurking I used to do.
I have seen a few cases where anger started but it was quickly extinguished. Some topics will bring out strong emotions so I often ignore threads where that can happen.

    Re: FORT Koffee Klatch

I have something I can't seem to let go of, so maybe getting it off my chest here will help. Feel free to skip right over it.
Early this week I was teaching class and two teachers who had prep periods stood outside my door talking REALLY LOUDLY. It brought my class to a halt. I waited a minute thinking they would move on and when they didn't, I jokingly said, "Maybe if I close the door they'll get a clue" and shut the door. Yesterday I was doing hall duty with two other colleagues and the younger teacher involved earlier walked past us and said, "I need to talk to you, mumble, mumble, mumble Didn't appreciate it". None of us heard what she said but it was apparently directed at me. So 5 minutes later she corners me in my room and goes off on me being so inappropriate in front of students. I honestly don't know what I did that was wrong, but I appologized 3 times during her onslaught and she just kept right on at me. She had been building up steam for 3 days since it happened. Seems to me if anyone was owed an appology it was me, but I try to get along and keep things on an even keel. I know she's going to hold this grudge for a looooong time and talk me down to other teachers, because that's how she is. Anyway.
    Count your blessings!
