Now see, I was going to say it's always on Thursday because the origin of the word is "Thor's day":
Thor (from Old Norse Þórr) is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, destruction, fertility, healing, and the protection of mankind.
I don't know about you, but that sounds like my family's Thanksgiving to a T.
Count your blessings!
I am thankful for Mike and the dogs as we were going to be spending this Thanksgiving alone again. My folks drove up to Cali with my brother to see my sister and the other sister and brother each have inlaws to spend time with. I was telling a girlfriend of mine what I was cooking for myself and Mike and she said she was cooking the same things for her and her hubby so why didn't we come over to their place. I am now making a huge home made from scratch chocolate cake to take as well as some adult beverages and we plan on having a great time with some good friends. Mike actually likes her hubby too so it should turn out to be a great evening! I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving Day!
Oh, wish I was eating with you. I am much more of a cake person than a pie one. We have apple and pumpkin pie. I made pumpkin bread and will either eat that or my sugar free klondike bars.Originally Posted by Lil Bit;4113726;

VelvetRed, I'm so sorry you're having tough times. Hopefully, they'll soon be a thing of the past. Life can be so hard at times.Originally Posted by VelvetRed;4113407;
We opted out of the too-large T-day dinner with my husband's family this year. Just going to be our immediate family here, my daughter, her husband and my husband's stepson (who's like our own). Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. Unfortunately, 5 years ago, my son died a couple days after Thanksgiving . So his absence is always felt by all of us, at this time, we just want the few of us to be together, without all the stuff that goes with too many people whom you don't really care about that much anyway and all the phony-baloney that goes with that.
It may sound a little morbid but it's not. It's a chance for us to really feel like a close family and appreciate that we have each other. I cook like a mad-woman so, like always, I can send a bunch of food home with the kids. I think they like the leftovers better than the dinner itself.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my FORT friends!!
To Thine Own Self Be True
Happy Thanksgiving!!! My entire extended family - mom, siblings, their spouses and kids, my kids - all gather in Ohio for TG today and Christmas tomorrow. I haven't been able to go for over a decade because our contract doesn't allow us to take off the day before a holiday and we have a half day on Wednesday. I tried going one year after we got out and it was exhausting to travel that late in the day and then be surrounded by the chaos. When the kids were young, I relished having several days in a row without them, and now that they're grown, there's usually one who can't make it to Ohio, so I end up having an intimate TG with them. This year, it's my pilot daughter who was going to try to fly stand-by, but decided to just come here for a more relaxed experience. She's bringing a friend from Japan who would have been alone. So yesterday I went shopping for a large chicken (she didn't want me to make a whole turkey) and all the trimmings. Today I will be cleaning, cooking, listening to music, checking in here once in a while. fun!
Count your blessings!
GUT -- So glad you will not be alone, as you had expected. Enjoy your daughter and her friend.
