I was taking pictures of the bright colored leaves today, and I remembered how we used to pick leaves, flowers, grass, etc. and arrange them on a sheet of wax paper, take another sheet of wax paper, lay it on top, and then use an iron to melt the two wax paper sheets together, trapping our designs. When they cooled, we would hang them in the windows until the colors faded.

But add me to the "go for it" crowd. Just recently, one of my former students -- who is now a teacher, too -- told me that [because of the "taking under wing" stuff] I was a major influence in her decision to become a teacher. Wow.
And one of the girls I tutor (confirmed separately by her mom) told me that she now wants to be an ESL teacher.

Proceed -- yes. With caution -- hell, yes!
(But I figure you already know that . . .)

Well Gut, if you do invite the student over to help you at your house, just hide the towels.

We did that too and I loved it. We used to use crayon shavings in wax paper, too. Could be an ironing disaster, but the effect of the melted crayon wax was like a kid version of stained glass.

Gosh, your post brought back a lot of old memories that I'd forgotten about. I remember doing this as a kid.

This is a great idea for seasonal decorations and I will try it. Thanks.

And here I thought that you just had some extra towels that you needed to get rid of!!

Gut, it's ok to repress, but we'll just keep on re-repressing them!
