This is probably a dumb question, but can someone explain to me the difference between a debit card and a check card? I lost what I think was my check card while on vacation, and the replacement they've sent looks nothing like the old one, and it says only debit card on it. I'm afraid I somehow got the wrong type (of course in any event, why didn't they send me a new card of the same type as the one I lost in the first place?!?!)

And I'm sure I'm being a bit silly, but I just want a new card that looks like my old one (and does the same things). Familiarity.

It is the same thing, some people/places just use different names for it. The 'debit' function is when you are checking out at the grocery store and you opt to put your pin number in the little swipe pad at the check out. The 'check card' option just lets you select 'credit' and swipe it without putting in your pin number. One card can do both of those options. Your bank probably updated it's design on the card.

I work for a bank and we updated our design about a year ago and it also has a few safty features that are new that the old design didn't. They do that sometimes to help make it less easy for someone to copy it.

I have, and he wants me home so whenever he awakes from one of his frequent naps he can get brushed or rubbed or whatever it is he wants WHEN he wants it.

OK, thanks... for some reason, the different look and lack of hologram (as was on my old check card, and my roommate's) is freaking me out. And apparently they issue both, so doubly confusing.

That was the other thing-- the card that I lost was only about 8 months old. And if anything, this new one looks much EASIER to copy, not harder.
