I did and I always do, but these requests still annoy me. It finally dawned on me what the issue is - they're manipulative. Manipulativeness (real word? don't have time to check right now ) is one of my top three least favourite character traits, along with laying blame elsewhere and selfishness.

ETA: Actually, there's a fourth trait - humourlessness. Can't stand people who can't laugh at themselves.

I hope you mean the kind that are ALWAYS giving things away--I got rid of a whole bunch of stuff a while back, but may soon post a few 'wants'...but not a whole page like some do. if the people around here check, it would look like i posted a lot of give-aways, but it was all around the same time...

Our message search goes back a couple of years; so I use it to sort of check out the person's freecycle "history" and help me decide who to contact first out of the emails wanting the item. In my county, some folks will have nothing but a history of posting wants, and - fair or not - I will pass them over in favor of someone who's at least posted an offer or two in the past.

Does anyone have a cure for a case of the spiders? I just found a humungous monster in my kitchen and promptly sprayed it with half a can of raid before curling up in the fetal position on my couch to type this message. I fully admit that I am a wuss, please help! Raid dosn't seem to be frightening them away.

Rattus, I see it as more of a sense of entitlement. I have all these problems so it makes me more entitled than the next person to get what I want.

    I have manipulative people too.

Oh yeah, trait number five - entitlement. I can't stand people who feel entitled. And when you get someone who has all five traits - wow! And believe me, it isn't that difficult to find someone with all five.

Could be a wolf spider. They are big and once they get indoors like to have a lot of babies. I'm thinking they are harmless but do a google search.
I very much believe in rescuing animals, not buying them.

I'm dealing with cicadas, and these things look like they are the size of baby birds! I'm anti-bug, anyway, but these things are forcing me to stay inside. And the noise.....good grief!! When do these things die off?

I know what you mean, I saw one this morning that was big enough to fly off holding my chihuahua. I think they die during the first cold snap.

They sound kind of soothing... as long as they stay far off in the trees and don't show themselves.
