    Re: FORT Koffee Klatch

My youngest daughter (17) just told me she's not excited about Christmas. My son told me he didn't like Christmas last year. My older daughter probably won't be able to get home, so I'm considering going without a tree this year. I'm the one who has to set it up, decorate it, take it down, and drag it into the woods every year. We still have needles stuck in the carpet from last year. I've never had a Christmas without a tree, but I'll be darned if I'm going to go through all the motions if nobody will appreciate it. Bah humbug! My son had a horrible time at my mom's for Thanksgiving. They got there early and she picked on him and told everyone else exaggerated stories about him before they arrived. She has a lot of dust and mold and he was overcome with allergies on top of it all. The other cousins are wealthy and vacation together, so he feels left out when they talk about stuff they've done together. *big sigh*
    Count your blessings!

I got mine up and decorated *by myself, as usual.
I'm having a basket party tomorrow night and want the Christmas theme, but then am leaving for 2 weeks.
at least it is done for when I get home.

This year we are really promoting that our friends and family do not get us gifts. We would like for them to find families who need gifts for the young ones and buy them something to make their Christmas special. I think we'll put up a tree and put names of families that we buy things for on cards and hang them on the tree.

I think either this year or last year i complained about a phobia i didn't have a name for, i could describe it and look for pictures that would trigger a physical response. But now i know that it's called Trypophobia and it's a fear of holes. I totally have it. I never knew why i had such reactions to certain images, i can't even begin to figure out how not to feel the way that i do. It's just good to know what it is and that unfortunately, i'm not alone. I will leave a warning though, if anyone decides to look up images related to this phobia, they are disturbing. Whether real or not.

Gut, I'm sorry your family are being scrooges. I really like Buglovers idea of adopting families and putting their names on the tree.

I'm not really into it this year either. I did decorate hoping it would help put me in the mood, but I'm so turned off by the commercialism that I'm going to do Buglover's idea. My daughter has really helped a lot this weekend with Christmas. She's actually being so much nicer in general. But she said that finally yesterday, she could breathe and her sinus headaches were gone and she's just generally feeling SO much better. I guess she's been miserable for so long that it really affected how she acted. Even her voice has changed now that she can breathe better.

Maybe this year, you can take your kids to a shelter to help the homeless and they'll get a better appreciation for having a mom and a home and any kind of Christmas.

And let me tell you that we were just talking about how you and your daughter really made our Christmas special two years ago when my husband lost his job. So while your family may not think Christmas is special. We happen to be VERY thankful to you and your family because you made one of our Christmases very special indeed. And we are forever grateful for that and for your friendship.

I'm glad little rosie is doing better MRD. I was worried she'd be grumpy for a while and you may run away!!

I've been online all day trying to find a place to serve Christmas dinner to homeless families and there's really no actual place to sign up for it. Mr buglover is going to go down to our local food bank and see if he can put our family on the list to help out. I think our teenagers will have a better appreciation for all of the things they have gotten in their years when they see families who have nothing.

I didn't know there was a name for that, Amy. I don't have that phobia exactly, but those kind of pictures do make me feel uncomfortable.

    Good idea!!

I have a friend who told me that they donate money to Heffers international (I think...) you can actually purchase animals (cows, chickens, water buffalo...) for families. Unreal!

But, there is a lot of need here this year. Volunteering at a shelter or food bank is a great idea. I'm fortunate that Mr. Red found a job when he got laid off, but it reminded me that we're only 1 decision away from being there ourselves.

I think there are many of us out here that won't be doing what we've done before. I have always paid forward, usually anonomously. I probably won't put a tree up. I am redoing my home, and have been enjoying painting, putting new blinds up. I have 2 doors on order, and can't wait til their here. Rather than spot plastering the last bedroom, I will be putting up drywall instead. Although it is relaxing, I am not a master plasterer and I want it to look nice. I find that I'm not in a holiday spirit these days. My extended family has decided to draw names this year, so only have one present to buy rather than 15 presents. I think that's nice!
