I don't see the attraction either, but obviously someone does because I notice that it's sold out. At $600 a tree, no less.

Thanks for the gift exchange suggestions. I've sent out an email with several suggestions and everyone will get a vote. I'm hoping that the majority pick the right-left game.

They gave several good reasons in the info - a European tradition of hanging the tree from the ceiling, fits a small space better, the ornaments hang away from the branches so you can see them... but I agree - not my cup of tea. Our Walmart has a really cool tree in its entrance - tall and skinny with huge green ball ornaments and nothing else. A large polka dot effect that I found whimsical. I wonder if the fake tree and ornaments would be less than buying a live (cut) tree.

Don't know about the tree, but I looooooove Hammacher Schlemmer and have been exceedingly happy with the many exorbitantly priced things I have bought there. I have yet another wish list building right now and once I feel assured that I'm not going to be fired, I'm going shopping .

I don't get it either. Last year they were EVERYWHERE.

This year, we'll be lucky if I get a right side up tree put up.

Does Santa then hang the gifts upside down from the ceiling?

We have a fake tree. We used to do the real deal, but we found it to be just such a hassle and time commitment (not to mention the whole needles falling). We love our fake tree. It's full, it looks real, and best of all no one has to remember to water or vacuum!

We do a "simple" tree with white lights, lots of pewter/crystal ornaments and some others. It always ends up looking really pretty and it lasts far longer than a real tree.

And you can get that Christmas-y, greenery smell from a high quality candle! My favorite is Yankee's Christmas Wreath. Heavenly!

I remember going to some Polish restaurant in Milwaukee -- and I can't remember the name -- that had little Christmas trees hanging from the ceiling year 'round.
