My mom rocks. She raised me and my sister alone from ages 15 and 11. She put us through school. She taught us to drive. She gave me bad perms, she's moved me in and out of seven different apartments, she raises a whole garden every year, she's 60 and stronger than me. She gets outwitted by groundhogs who eat her garden and cats who insist on sleeping on her bed -- all the tricks she tries, like planting green onions all the way around the garden to "fool" the groundhogs, or putting coat hangers on her pillows to ward off the cats, fail. She and my sister and I still take a vacation together every summer. She is smart and funny, especially unintentionally, and her only flaw is she won't tell me when she thinks I'm making a mistake, even when I WANT her to.
Now I have to go clean my house because she's coming to visit next week and I don't want her saying, "Oh, it's your house, you live the way you want," and then try to wash my dishes behind my back.
