Cutting stuff back. I like working with the perennials with nice basal leaves. I cut out the floor stalks and any dead leaves and I'm left with an attractive ground cover mound for the winter. Not as much color, but a variety of greens and texture. And then less to clear next spring (when ticks are especially small).

The others appear to be chrysanthemums.

I'm throwing out (dead) flowers and you're planting them -- I'm so jealous!

Half off all shrubs season. Been planting like mad today. Finished out what will eventually be a 70 foot burning bush hedge; 21 dwarf nandina; a few more piers japonica; three more rhododendron which brings me up to 24 on the year. It will be a few years but eventually my new next door lot might look respectable. I have a corner to finish backfill/sloping and cleaning out brush and it eventually be a woodland bed, but that will probably be this time next year before I plant it.

I got grass growing over maybe 80% of it so that was my big goal for the year. I had to deal with some tree work getting done and cleaned up before I could do much in the way of shrubs for fear they would be badly damaged by the tree company equipment/trampled in the clean up or squished by falling limbs. I will continue to chisel away at it over winter but it looks like we will be getting our first frosts tuesday and wednesday so the still mostly green leaves in all the trees will be a six-inch shag carpet here directly.

Fall here is warm...but the weather here changes a lot! We had a ''cold'' front roll in this weekend...

Moved all the outside plants inside for the winter today with frost coming tomorrow. It was pretty windy today so no point letting them dry out first. Have a bunch of spring bulbs to plant still but have been hesitant because it has been so warm.
