    halloween costumes

only a little over 5 weeks till halloween!!! time to start thinking of your costumes......

i have a costume party to go to again this year. in the past, i've been 70s girl (about 3 years ago when it was a bit harder to find the clothes! ) and a washed up porn star, among other things.

this year, i'm thinking of my boyfriend and i going as leeloo and korben dallas from "the fifth element"... yeah, i know it's been forever since that movie came out, but i still love it (and with the short orange wig cut in a bob, shouldn't be too terribly difficult to figure out who we are). plus, my bf already has the short hair cut that would be easy to spray blonde for the evening...and he loves the scruffy facial hair look anyway.

so, what are you guys going as? or what would you go as? (in other words, i'm wondering if your idea is better than mine so i can snag it from ya!)

Sid, you go ahead...I'm picturing you in the bandages in the orange wig!

I'm probably avoiding Halloween this year, except to hand out a little candy. We get SO many TOT'ers every year, we could go broke handing out candy to everyone. So, we usually do a couple bags and turn out the lights

Well, I'm English Sid and we just don't do halloween there.
It is getting more popular as the card and costume companies try to promote it as an excellent money making event.

I haven't dressed up in years. The last two costumes I can remember wearing weren't nearly as great as your idea shersidhe. I went as a cutesy Austrian hiker once. I had the funny hat with feathers, the walking cane with bell and booze attached, old courderoy hiking knickers, old fashioned wool sweater and socks, and huge hiking boots. I looked pretty silly, but it was fun. Once I went as a sexy flight attendant. I had my mom's tiny little airline uniform from the sixties. It wasn't real comfortable, but the guys seemed to like it.
Iím haunted a little this evening by feelings that have no vocabulary and events that should be explained in dimensions of lint rather than words.

I met my husband on Halloween weekend a long time ago while I was in grad school. I was dressed up like highway road kill, all black like a highway, center stripe up the front, road sign on the back, and dead stuffed animals in pools of blood stuck all over. Halloween is very big in Madison, Wisconsin, Fluff, but has nothing to do with candy and cards, it was just one big party, like those 'Sconnies need any excuse to get dressed up silly and go drinking.

My daughter is going as Winnie the Pooh this year, as the firefighter costume she really wanted didn't come in a small enough size and somehow we weren't getting out of Target without a costume. We're not taking her door to door, though, as she doesn't really get to eat candy (she's only 2) so we'll like drive her across town to see her Auntie and then have her hand out candy to other kids in our neighborhood. The big deal at our house is having a pumpkin, as pumpkins rule.

The thing that bothers me about the "candy" part of halloween is that all year long parents tell their kids not to talk t, or accpet candy from strangers, then on October the 31st it's "come on kids let's dress in costumes and go up to strangers and ask them for candy". I guess I'm missing the point
My boys will dress up for school/play group but I won't take them door to door.

My boys are officially too "old" for the door to door bit now
Then my daughter gets her braces on......Oct 30th!
That was mean wasn't it? I didn't even realize what I was doing when I made the appt.
