So has anyone been out hunting? The weather here has been perfect for it but I am flat broke and just can't afford the gas. But I'm taking a 3 day weekend next week and plan to go camping at the nearby state park. Looks like there's going to be some serious hiking in my future. I can't wait!

Yes, we did our first hiking geocaches last weekend. I really, really wanted those caches...we even read a trail post wrong and ended up on the wrong side of big hill from the caches we had planned, so we did an extra 3 miles to get to that cache from the back of the mountain.

I hear you on the gas, though. I only have 35 finds so I still have plenty to do around here, I don't envy you!

My husband has a friend who is really into geocaching and we've talked about doing it. I think we'll be shopping around for a GPS unit soon.
Getting lost will help you find yourself.

Or you could just borrow your husband's friend's GPS to see if you like it. That's exactly what we did.

My sister got me into geocaching - I have a Magellan 210 and it has the WAAS dealie. Whatever you do -DO NOT go to eBay and enter "geocaching" or you will be sorry!!
I have ordered a few things already...sigh. Along with my Hard Rock Cafe pins and Trail of Painted Ponies...man, I hardly have time to work or sleep!!
There are so many out here since there is just a lil bit of desert all around us and there are even caches in parking garages at the casinos. (Think rebar!)
Put on your big girl panties and deal with it!!

I'm not sure why but I've never ventured in here. What a really cool thing. We have 20 within a mile and over 200 within 5 miles! I might need to get my husband one for Father's Day. We are going up to Klamath Falls and Crater Lake as well as Eugene and Portland next month and this would be a fun activity to build into the trip. Thanks for the tip!

Just got back from visiting family. I think we recruited some of our extended family to cacheing

It's also fun to go cacheing in your old stomping grounds--you notice things you never saw there before.

Thats great drnick! I can't wait to visit my family in CA and take my neice and nephew caching. Plus I grew up on an air force base that is now closed and used as an airport. Whenever I am in CA I never find time to go by there and check it out. But now that I know theres a cache out there it is on my priority list.

I have a hard time putting the GPS away and actually looking at the area. If my GPS is saying 10 ft I expect it to be in 10ft.
CGN, just to let you know, someone posted updated coordinates and we did find it. The coords sent me to the middle of a paved path, but the person said to look east from there, and that did the trick. The aggravating thing is that I am positive I looked there before. Gah! But at least I can relax now. This particular cache was right within my view a few times a week, and it was driving me nuts that I couldn't find it.
