I hate Valentines day. The very notion that you should need to show your love on this day more then any other is down right offensive to me. It is a commercial holliday with no real meaning. You want a day to celebrate your love with your partner then that is what your anniversery is for.

Um I forget that too...usually till like a week later - then I can't remember how long . You should always get married on Valentines day or Christmas, or another unmoving holiday so you don't forget.

    I agree GH.

I also hate Halloween, don't tell me it's a holiday because it isn't.

Do you get the day off work? Are banks closed? Do kids get the day off school?
No, then how is that a freakin' holiday.

I also hate mother's day and father's day for the same commerical reasons.

Ok all you people rain on the parade! I KNOW it is not the only day to show love! I just think its fun, to do cutsie things and all that red and white and chocolate and romantic notions!

I send all my family and friends a dozen chocolate covered strawberries from Mary of Puddin Hill, they come packaged in marshmallows and they are overnighted (free of charge) to the people! it is wonderful,, I actually end up sending about 4 boxes. Any way then I love to do silly stuff for my boy friend and for my daughter and her class party! Just a day to be fun and silly and overly romantic ! I don't get all pouty about it,, I just think its fun to participate!

That was pretty funny Feifer. As long as my husband remembers our first "real" date and our wedding anniversary I'm happy. Those are the dates that matter to us. (besides I'm not a chocolate fan, give me jelly bellys or sweettarts any time) Valentine day to me is just retailer's way of pushing people to buy more stuff. I'll make a nicer supper and we often get out the wedding china with the nice crystal, but otherwise.....it's hard to get a sitter, the resterants are crowded, so oh well. (the last time we made a big deal of Valentine's day was Feb 92, 4 days before our first baby was due. He took me out to dinner, bought me roses and some jewerly. I think he thought he better do something or in a pregnant woman rage I was going to kill him)

    Nancy,
I know what you mean. My hubby brought me flowers for Valentine's Day right after we had our son. I think he was convinced he was neeever going to be allowed near the nether regions if he did not. The next time I got something for VD was two years later, right after I had my daughter. I figure that I am never getting another VD present, cause I am finished having kiddos.

I would rather my hubby pick any day out of the year to surprise me with wildflowers than to stuggle to remember Valentine's Day and buy roses. Plus, he was really cool on our Anniversary this year. He is really starting to get into the romantic stuff. Gotta love that man!

I think it's a great opportunity to remind ourselves how much we care about our loved ones. You can never do that too much. It's really just the commercialism that seems to sour people on it, I think. Personally, I love the homemade valentines. They're the best.

You wanna talk about worthless holidays, how about Groundhog's Day? We celebrate a rodent? Also, New Year's Day as a holiday is just really sad & depressing. It only exists so stupid drunk drivers won't kill people.

*Warning, you may need to sit down for this* On Valentine's Day, I am not a material girl at all.

I think the sweetest VDAY gifts are the things that require thought, not money. Write me a poem or a song, paint/draw me a picture, take me on a picnic under the stars and sing into my ear while we slow dance. *Sigh*
