Dragonlady - I'm so happy that you're recovering from your illness. My husband had a bad bout with pneumonia a couple of years ago. Not nearly as bad as yours, but he spent quite a bit of time recovering from it. I'm sending you good thoughts and prayers for your continued good health. Keep us posted.

I'm just so grateful to have overcome the odds my family was given: only 20%chance of living through it. Coming that close to dying really changes your perspective on life, to say the least.
Now I need to "fatten up" but am finding it's just as hard to put on weight as it was most of my life to lose weight!!
The only advice I have is if you ever feel tightness in your chest or difficulty in breathing, don't put off seeing a doctor or assume it'll go away. Pneumonia can sneak up on you before you even realize how serious it is.
Welcome back, FoRT isn't the same without you

Sorry to learn about your illness, how scary! Happy you fell into the 20% survival category! While it wasn't me personally, our recent scare with our son's brain tumor (not knowing if it was malignant or not for 8 long days!) took me to the edge, and I'm renewing my outlook and priorities on a LOT of things. For example, spending less time on the computer and more time living in the "real" world.

Hoping this very difficult life event will enhance your life in some way (you know the old saying, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger") and bring you increased joy with each new day!

If you need twenty or so pounds, I'll be happy to give you some of mine

Yes - let us know if you'd like donations of extra pounds. But seriously, when I was going through chemo, my doctor said to eat anything that appealed to me and not worry about gaining weight. All I wanted was baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. Almost everything else was repulsive to me. Find what sounds good to you... egg custard? apple pie? chili? Look through a cookbook and some things may jump out at you. Go for it!
    Count your blessings!

Dragon Lady, I'm so sorry to hear of your terrible ordeal. I am prone to pneumonia and have had it about 3 times in my life but have only been hospitalized once for a few days. Fortunately, I know the symptoms and get right to the doctor when I first feel the symptoms. I know that although your lungs may be clear, it takes a long, long time to get back to feeling right again. You may not feel like yourself for several months. I hope you get your appetite back and your weight back on. Like others have said, I'd gladly send you several pounds of me if I could. Sending you hugs and prayers for restored health.

Fierce Critter, so happy to hear the good news that you found a new home! Best of luck!

    Re: Share your good news

Isn't there a shot, like a flu shot, for pneumonia? I want to say that I remember seeing that advertised, but it seemed foreign to me. And it is expensive, but if it will ward off something like Dragon Lady's problem, it may well be worth it. I've never remembered to ask my doctor about it. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about, or was I just dreaming this? I'll be seeing her again in September, and I'm going to try to remember to ask about it.

Yes, there's a pneumonia vaccine, and you only have to get it every [10 (may be 5) years.
Dragon Lady, I'm glad you are better! I know it's hard having to re-learn to walk and do all the other rehab you have to do, but being that sick actually is helpful in one way in my opinion--from now on, I bet you will find that it's going to be very rare for you to say "I just CAN'T do---whatever" .

My husband had the pneumonia vaccine after his last bout with it, and he hasn't had it since. (knock on wood)
