Well, I'm almost 45 and I got to hold the torch today! One of the torchbearers was a student who recently left our elementary school for high school, but she came back today in her olympic track suit that she wore yesterday while running, with the torch in it's special case, to give a talk at a special assembly. I was in the office when she came in so I got to hold it.

One of my girl's classmates, her dad also got to run with the torch and so she came to their school today with it, and they also got to hold it. I guess you get to keep it afterwards which is a pretty amazing souvenir.

I got the BEST news today. We have been embroiled in an insurance appeal for quite some time now with our health insurance company about an air ambulance ride that my husband had to take. The ER doctor AND the specialist at the hospital where he was transferred both stated that it was medically necessary for him to be transported by air. Blue Cross/Blue Shield thought otherwise and we had lost 2 appeals with them. So we filed an external appeal and it's been such a hassle getting all the records released, not to mention the stress of waiting. But, I just got a registered letter saying that their denial has been overturned. This was a bill for almost $10,000. We've been making payments on it, but if we had lost the appeal, then Mayo Medical would have wanted the balance immediately. I can't even describe what a relief this is. Thank you God!!!

Congratulations to you for your persistence. Sometimes you just have to keep it at with a lot of guts and determination. Was in the insurance business much of my working life so I know the ropes, but when I fought the auto insurance company over something, I did win too.

I damn well better. I am planning a call to Mayo Medical Transport on Monday and they will be paying back what I've already paid, or I'll sic my lawyer on them.

Actually, they've been pretty understanding, considering this charge is from September of 2007. They were willing to take payments until the appeal was finished. IF we had lost, then I imagine they would have gotten serious about it being paid in full. Thankfully that didn't happen.

Lil Bit, congratulations on your great financial news! That is what I can't stand about insurance companies, we pay and pay every month and then when it's their turn, they balk.

sweetpea, did you get any pictures of you and the torch? How exciting for your former student to be a torchbearer.

I think our Principal did get a picture, but I'm not sure if it was entirely me and the torch or just my arm and the torch I'll have to check with her and see.

    Re: Share your good news

I just got a message on facebook from The One Who Got Away (30 years ago). He wants to reconnect. I feel like a teenager with stars in her eyes. Of course when we were together I was the age my youngest is now, but it makes me giggle to think how in love I was with this guy. I never thought I'd hear from him again.
    Count your blessings!
