Re: Share your good news

Whatever decision your hubby makes mrd will be the right one for him. Mr buglover had sent out resumes for a year and only received one call back and it was to tell him thanks for the resume but you are over qualified for the position. He has a great potential to earn money on his own but business has been very slow and he needs to decide which avenue to take once again.

Re: Share your good news

I wanted to post an update on my interview yesterday. My interview was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., at which time I met with the Operations Manager and the Department Administrator. I talked with them for about an hour, and they said that although they had a couple of other people to interview, they wanted to go ahead and find a way that day for me to talk to the doctor for whom I would be working, and they asked if I could hang around until about 4 p.m., as she was tied up in clinic and meetings until then. I thought that this was a good sign, so of course I said yes. I met with her (the doctor) until about 5 p.m., and I think it went really well - our personalities seemed to mesh, and she commented several times about me being a "high energy" person and how that was a good thing with what her schedule is like. Before I left the interview with her I asked if there was anything that she had written that I could read (while they are going through the process of interviewing others) that would give me better insight into her specialty and what she does. I think this kind of surprised her - but in a good way - and after thinking for a moment she jotted down the name of a paper that she had written and asked me to get it from the Operations Manager. I chatted with the OM on my way out to request the paper, which she will have to find and e-mail to me.

So - while I feel like it went well, I know that once again I will have to be patient and play the waiting game, as the interview/hiring process seems to be one that takes a while at this hospital - and no wonder - I found out that they employ over 16,000 people - wow! I mean, I knew this place was huge - it takes up almost three city blocks, but I had no idea! And, if this doesn't work out, then at least I got some additional interview experience under my belt for the next time!

Re: Share your good news

Yay, Chrelsey! That's a rockin' interview -- I'd hire you! Asking for further information that gives insight into a future employer's specialty/area of expertise/etc. gives the impression that the candidate is interested in the success of the organization or superior, and not simply the paycheck and the perks; plus, reading an article or paper written by said potential superior indicates a decent level of intelligence. Another "subliminal" put forth by requesting the article or paper is the mindset that the job is indeed yours, and you're just waiting for the formalities to be over -- appropriate confidence in one's self inspires the potential employer's confidence in the candidate.

Following up with a brief thank-you-for-the-interview note on a simple, tasteful notecard makes a good impression -- and plants a reminder at just the right time.

Fingers crossed that this job is yours! (And, if not, you've had a rockin' experience to take to the next interview.)

Re: Share your good news

It sounds like the interview went REALLY well, chrelsey. I hope you hear something positive soon.

My son had an interview last night for a part time lifeguard at the gym where he belongs. He needs something for after the summer is over. They hired him on the spot! He starts the first weekend in August, so he'll be working a couple of weeks full time at the camp and also part time at the gym. They said when no one is swimming, he can do whatever he wants as long as he's not sleeping. Which means he'll be able to do homework or study. The few times I've been to the pool, there has been almost no one or no one at all there. Sounds like a really easy job.

Re: Share your good news

That's great news, ScoutMom - congrats to your son! And, being able to have downtime where he can study or do homework is definitely an added bonus.

Thanks, Ellen, for the suggestion of following up with a thank-you-for-the-interview note - that is a great idea!
