Cricketeen, you think I didn't want to kill her? I went to the hospital to get induced on a Friday night and had my son late in the afternoon of Monday. But I had a very easy pregnancy and she had a pretty scary first trimester, so I guess she deserved a break.

Congrats to you and your family Desert Rose! Glad to know everything worked out well, especially since she had such a scary time early on.

In most cases, the use of Prednisone is usually a short term right? Unless the patient is chronically ill as was my mom.

Also, if steroids are being used, they usually reduce inflammation which can be the cause of problems.
I know that I have been prescibed them short term to help when I had some issues and they did the trick and fixed the problem, not just covered it up.
Generally yes, these affects do tend to be more prevelent with long term use for chronic illness. Prednisone is used for short term and long term use. The high blood sugar could turn into an issue if she were kept on the drug for an extended length of time. Blood sugar rises in patients that use it even for short intervals it's just an effect of the drug. Most people's bodies are able to compensate for the rise for awhile, but could have the potential of needing treatment for the high blood sugar if their body doesn't for some reason have the ability to compensate for it or if it ends up being used for a longer period of time. It was mentioned as a heads up to something that could happen as was the thinning skin and bruising. There is just such a broad spectrum of how different individuals will do with the same medicine. I just hope that the doctors get to the root of the problem and then do what is best to treat and resolve it (as we all do).

Thanks for all the advice and things to watch for. Cricketeen - I've recently travelled to Africa but haven't been out west at all.

After my operation everyone (except ex and brother) have been totally stellar. The house is like a florist's shop. People have been dropping by to offer help, and phoning up to see what they can pick up. I've had sushi, gelatti, fish, miso soup, and more sushi brought in. I can't bake (stirring would hurt) so a friend is bringing me frozen cookie dough. They've been amazing and it's so good and helps my recovery Hugely!
