Re: Talk about your troubles

Glad to hear your stress level went down a bunch, sweetpea.

Gut, I think if it's H1N1 it lasts about a week.

Re: Talk about your troubles

I hope everyone begins to feel better soon.

My trouble is a gnawing feeling regarding a bill I received from an Attorney that I had seen about 6 years ago. I had one meeting with her, paid in a check and went about my business. This September 22nd I received a bill for 10 minutes of a phone call consult I supposedly received on Sept. 9th. I haven't called her office in years. I called the billing manager listed on the bill and it was a cell phone and a man answered. I asked for the billing manager by name and he said she would call me back. She never called. I called the attorney personally and said I haven't spoken with you in years....she agreed and said she would take care of it.

Last month I called the billing manager again and got a voice mail. I left a message stating that this is a mistake and I would like it cleared up. I gave all the information on the invoice and never heard from her.

Today I called the number again and got voice mail again. This time I demanded a call back to ensure that this has been taken care of and that I will not be sent to collections for $25 for a 10 minute phone call I never made.

If I do not receive a call from this billing manager, what type of action do I take? I'm scared to call the attorney again because she may charge me for trying to sort this whole billing error out.

Re: Talk about your troubles

I'd be inclined to document the calls you made and put it out of your mind. If you get another bill, try again. I've had something similar happen and they never got back to me, but they took care of the problem.

Sounds like a scam to me. I would call the consumer protection agency serving the area in which you live. You are being harrassed. No attorney and/or staff would have you call back to a cell phone number. Antennas up!! if you know what I mean.

Re: Talk about your troubles

Best thing seriously is to send a letter requiring a signature for receiving it stating that you dispute the charges and insist they reply in writing. If they do call you, part of your documented conversation should be and you will have a letter to me within 5 days correct?

Re: Talk about your troubles

I agree with gabriel. Send a letter outlining everything that happened, including your phone calls to rectify the problem. In that letter, ask that a written reply be sent back to you confirming you do not owe the $25.00 or you will seek legal counsel.

Hopefully you will receive some sort of notice that you do not owe the money, then I would get a free credit check done on myself to ensure it is not reported on the credit bureau. If it is on the credit bureau, I would send a copy of the letter they sent confirming you do not owe the money, so the credit bureau can adjust your records. I would keep that letter for a very long time.

I work with credit reports as part of my job, I see it happening all the time. By the time someone realizes an obligation is on their credit report that shouldn't be there, they have lost the receipt and its quite an ordeal getting another one several years after something has been paid.

Bug,
I agree with Columbia that this is a scam.
I'd do what she outlines and, also, what Gabriel has stated.
It's always best to CYA. Good luck!

Sweetpea,
Glad to hear the great news. And that the pain is starting to subside.

Gut,
Hope you're doing better. Whenever I get a flu, it takes me about 1 week to 10 days to feel better. Whenever I try to push myself too fast, it tends to worsen and the flu lingers.

Permission to be lazy - Thanks norealityhere!
I'm feeling better today. I woke up at 2 a.m. with a temp of 102.6 and took some Nyquil to knock myself out. When I woke up in the morning my clothes were DRENCHED but my fever was gone and I've had enough energy to go to the dump, do a load of laundry and a load of dishes. That's enough for one day.

Re: Talk about your troubles

I'm feeling much better, thanks. But not all better. I get dizzy when I stand up. I think I'll take another day off tomorrow just to be sure I'm not contagious.
