    Re: Talk about your troubles

I have a gay friend transferring to my highschool. Now, I am not upset because he is gay, I just don't want to see him ever again because he is a really bad friend. Anyhow, everyone is ready to rip him apart and I said things I think I'll regret (about how I'm unexcited for his return because of our loss of touch). I don't want him to come back to find out that is supposed friend is a backstabber. Two can tango, and he is goooood at playing fire with fire.

I don't know, should I avoid him, warn him, confront him? I don't know what to do...

spellboundboy, you could try apologizing and explaining to him what the situation will be. If he's a bad friend you are under no obligation to remain friends with him. But it will be very tough for him to come into a high school where he is preceded by someone bad-mouthing him Or maybe you could soften the blow and start talking GOOD about him.

Good advice here. At least you know that you took the high road. Confront the issue at the get go, then figure out how you will handle the fallout later. You might just agree to disagree, and go from there. Hopefully he is blessed with enough brains to let you be and get his self-improvement on.

    Re: Talk about your troubles

spellboundboy, you really are in a tough situation here and I commend you for trying to find a way out that leaves the least amount of damage. Unfortunately you're going to have to swallow a bit of pride to make it better. I know that in high school it's especially tough to back track, but maybe you could do it lightly. Maybe think of why you were friends to begin with? There has to be something good or fun about this guy. Just relay some good stories. And like I said, if he's a nasty friend it doesn't mean you need to rekindle the friendship. But if you do a few little things to make it easier for him to enter your high school you won't feel so guilty and you'll have less regrets later on.
