dberk, I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

lildago, too bad about your ankle. I hope you will be on the mend soon.

giz, What a tricky situation for you. I'm with the financial planning advice too. However, it sounds like he is pretty stubborn and might not go that route. Carrying that much in debt can be very damaging to your credit. It sounds as though you have managed to get the minimum balances paid on your bills, is that correct? Do you have a reasonable credit rating or has he wrecked that too (or do you even look at that up in Canada)?

If he doesn't agree to financial counseling/planning, I would set up a new account "at a different bank" so he couldn't dip into it. Secondly, I would pay the mortgage, utilities, groceries, personal necessities as you have been doing and then set aside and extra $100 or so into your personal account for a "rainy day". Don't even bother with the credit cards. Just change the billing and contact information on the cards to his work. If he wants to spend, he can start dealing with the credit. If he screws up, he can deal with the collection calls and stuff. I think you just need to make sure that you and the kids are covered. That's the important thing. Sorry I can't be of much help with this.

I'm so sorry for your loss, too, dberk.

I'll be keeping your family and you in my thoughts. (You're in 'em a lot, anyway, you know.)

Sorry to hear about your aunt, dberk.

I guess not getting to come to FORT for a while is bad news, so I'll bye for a while here. I'll be getting my hysterectomy early Thursday, so it's likely I won't have a chance to get online tomorrow. I'll be at my sister's house and probably won't get to use the computer any, plus I have to take "Go-Lite" tomorrow afternoon. I'm not going to describe it except that it sounds like it's NO FUN at all--anyway, see y'all in a week or two I hope.
