I've never heard of low salt levels, but it's clearly not a good thing.

I don't know if this is the same thing but my dad used to take salt tablets in the summer because he used to perspire so profusely on the job, and so, I guess, excreted too much sodium. Fortunately, he never had to be hospitalized.
