Could her heart be the base reason why she fell and they missed it on Saturday? That wouldn't be surprising.

Beerbelly, I'm thinking of you and your mom. I hope you can get some rest and that she will be feeling better soon.

No, they did an EKG on Saturday and she was fine.

I have an interview today and I didn't even get to research or prepare. All I want to do is get back to bed!

beerbelly, I hope your mom is ok and they are able to find out what is wrong. Ironically I am dealing with a similar thing right now. My mom fell a few months ago, and we blamed it on the snow (cracked her head open and have to have stitches, broke some ribs and broke her wrist). They just got back from a European trip and apparently she fell again in Spain - re-cracked her head open and ribs. So now that she is home, we are in the process of seeing a bunch of specialists. If she is just clumsy, that is fine - but given the serious damage that happens when she falls (and she doesn't even try to stop herself when she falls) we are concerned that something else is going on.

As if that wasn't enough, Monday night my 5yo daughter broke her collarbone. So this week has been spent with her at doctors offices and the hospital trying to pinpoint what was wrong so we can get it taken care of.

And then there is my SIL. My husband told me last week that he talked to her husband and whether it is intentional denial or no one really understanding, it is a lot more serious than we originally were led to believe. It is not stage 1, and they are now traveling to Texas to consult with a specialist there. My husband broke down last week and told me that it just hit him that she will probably be dead in 5 years. I'm not completely sure if this is accurate or just him finally processing how serious this is. I am just trying to be there for him and the rest of his family and do what I can.

So yeah, all in all, not a good month. But then I see the stories about what happened in Oklahoma and I realize that it could be so much worse. Doesn't minimize what any of us are going through, but does help to put it in perspective. Continued thoughts and prayers for everyone here who needs them - spockwhat and beerbelly (and yes, you too, pickachu!!).

Katesmom, I'm sending you a big cyber hug. I hope they find out the root of what is happening with your mom. So sorry about Kate's broken collar bone. I hope she isn't in too much pain and it heals up nicely. I don't know what to say about your sil's cancer. It just sucks!!! Hang in there.

Beerbelly, your mom is in good hands at the hospital so try to think positive thoughts. I'll say a little prayer that your interview goes well. You've got this!!!

First of all thoughts and prayers going out to you both.

Now ... about your Mom's .... I just want to mention that Doctors freuently don't mention this ... but certain medications can be somewhat responsible for falls especially some that are taken for Blood Pressure and Heart conditions.

I have heard this from nurses in a physical rehab unit ... They say that so many women who end up falling are on certain medications.
Just take the time to ask or check into it.

    Re: Talk about your troubles

Good luck Beerbelly with your mom's situation. It can be a very taxing experience for all involved.

As many of you know, we've been trying to discover the cause for my dad's dizzy and feeling faint spells for some months. It's an ordeal. I'm sad to see Beerbelly's mom having a similar problem. In addition to blood work, they will probably do lots of tests on the brain, MRI, etc.. Then they may do nuclear test of the heart and arteries to rule out a blockage. Then they may have her wear a heart monitor for 30 days to see if there is any changes. Then they may do a tilt test to see if her blood pressure drops in certain positions.

After all these tests, we still have no answers. I just found out that they never even checked him for inner ear problems that can cause vertigo and falling. I would check the inner ear first.

Katesmom, so sorry to hear of the new news about your SIL. I know it must be so difficult. It's good you are there to support your husband though. Many good thoughts and prayers are being sent your way.
