Katesmom, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. One positive is that they discovered it early. I hope that will bring some comfort. Please give us an update when you know more and are able.

    Re: Talk about your troubles

Thanks everyone. They are still running a bunch of tests, but a weird one came out this week, so I wanted to see if anyone else has heard this! The biopsy did come back positive, but now there is one doctor saying that since she had mono like 30 years ago, there is a chance that this could be dormant mono? And that apparently sometimes that can result in a positive biopsy?? Seriously, this seems absolutely bizarre to me so I don't know what to think. Obviously I would love if it is not cancer, but I just have a hard time believing that mono from 30 years ago could somehow result in this. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Wow...no never, but crossing my fingers that it's true! And is the case in this case. If true something for all former mono sufferers to remember...

    Re: Talk about your troubles

Can't say that I've ever heard of it, but it IS interesting. It says to me that "somebody"...the doctor is really wearing his thinking cap! Mono is due to a virus, like chickenpox is viral; chickenpox virus can lead to shingles. The chickenpox virus can lie dormant in the body for many, many years and that can lead to shingles. Viruses can be such "jerks" with their tricky little selves.

The doc could be remembering a little "aside" that was said in a lecture years ago that got him to thinking. It could be something, or it could be nothing. To say the least, he is thinking "outside the box".....the big thing is that he is THINKING. I am sure the docs have discussed and argued the point he made. That's a good thing.

I like a thinking person who is not an obvious lunatic! Is she at a teaching hospital?
