The Sound of Music tour was really fun. We didn't see the cemetery, which, according to the special features on the DVD, was actually a set recreated in Hollywood. We saw the lake that they fell into (which is also where the terrace scenes were shot, but only the parts that face away from the house), we drove by the house, we saw the gazebo, we saw Nonnberg Abbey from down a hill (we wouldn't have been allowed to go in)... We also drove by the foot bridge in Salzburg that they run over, and the tour itself ended near the Mirabell gardens, which is where a good chunk of the Do-Re-Mi scene was filmed. We also drove into the mountains, and they pointed out some of the mountains featured in the opening scene, and into the town of Mondsee to see the church where Maria and the Captain were married. My sister and I brought my portable DVD player on the train with us, and we watched the movie on the way back to Munich-- it was fun to see where we'd just been!

I'm actually going to Munich in May, a friend of mine moved there a month ago. We had talks of going to Salzburg to "recreate" Sound of Music, but that didn't work as the one most passionate about it couldn't come. We're planning on giong hiking for two days and then one day in Munich. I've never been there so it'll be fun, I've never really been to the Alps (driven through there once) either so I'm looking forward to that as well.

And we're planning on making our return to Munich in September. Oktoberfest!!

Those are beautiful. What a fabulous vacation! I've always wanted to go there. My parents went and raved about it.

I have seen the Trapp Family Ski lodge in Stowe, Vermont. They have hundreds of photos of the family in it from the time they came to America.

Oh, Queenie, those are beautiful! I figured you'd be catching the desert at the perfect time of year, but your timing was even better than I thought.

I've been to Point Loma many times but it's never looked prettier than that moment you captured from up the bluff. Thanks for sharing.
