Do any of you 1970's women remember the Gunne Sax dresses? They were ALL the rage for Proms and stuff.
Here's a couple reminders. Gaa! I'm glad that is a style that fell by the wayside.

Thinking back on it now, we must have all looked like we were going out to plow the back 40 instead of going to prom.

There's a bit of the Scarlett O'Hara vibe going on in that first picture (just not quite as fluffy), thank goodness, so that's not quite as bad as that "Cold Mountain" look in the last 3 pics.

I used to love the Gunne Sax dresses. I remember not wanting to buy anything else lol. Wow that was really sad, now that I think about it.

That first dress looks very much like the dress I wore to my 8th grade graduation. Of course I completed the look with the highest platforms I could find.

I'm sure my mother forced me to wear a few of those dresses in my time.

UGH! My new nominee for immediate banishment--those short jackets with big buttons that are being shown in every ad. They are so frumpy and ugly, and even make the stick thin models look thick waisted. The worst ones only have a top button or two, so the bottom stays even further from the body.

They're not even attractive either, in my opinion! They definitely leave a lot to be desired in terms of practicality. But I guess that isn't what fashion's about is it? !

I had been seeing this particular woman while on my way home from wearing a variety of them over a period of time, and I thought that she had made them herself in a failed attempt to be stylish. Poor woman, I thought, has no idea what sort of shapes suit a human body. Well, apparently it was not only her - designers, fashion editors, people who must wear whatever is new, none of them have a clue. Those things are even more hideous than the colour-block fiasco's of the eighties. It's one thing to have bad taste, but another thing entirely to accept another's bad taste and adopt it as one's own.
All I wanted was a 45, a stinking 45 - the record or the gun. I'd even settle for the damn malt liquor. - Al Bundy.
