I tend to take mine down Jan 1 if I have no other plans or the weekend after new years. One year, in pre kids stage, I left the fake tree up until March.
I could go east, I could go west, it was all up to me to decide. Just then I saw a young hawk flyin' and my soul began to rise. ~Bob Seger

If the 6th falls on a weekend, we'll usually wait and take it down that day. If it falls on a weekday (like this year), we'll probably take it down the weekend before.
Growing up, that is how my family did it. As the 6th is the 12th day and in fable when the wise men showed up (but I've read the same thing as firegirl that it was actually 2 years later) We used to put the tree up Christmas eve morning and took it down Jan 6, there used to be a mass that day, which I don't think they do anymore, they wait until the Sunday.

It was rather sad driving to the shops today and seeing so many trees by the roadside for collection.

    Hey!

Old, dead, bone dry, fire hazard trees need love too!

Mrs. Wayner got a burst of energy yesterday, so I got to take everything down. I even got to rearrange the furniture in the living and dining room. It's much nicer than before, but it amazes me how much work I do when my wife feels energized.

Can I go back to work yet? I'm off until the 6th. Somebody help me!!!

I always wait till I see the smoke coming off the needles from the heat of the lights reflecting off the tinsel. then I know it's timber time.

I never heard of the bad luck thing so day after christmas is fine by me. It was down 2 days ago.
In the orthodox church there is a celebration Jan 6 called little Christmas. When I was a kid they never took down the tree till after then.

At least till after new years eve.
