I'm not sure whether to hang my head in shame or hold my head high on this one cause like Hollly I was a kid in the 70s and a preteen/teen in the 80s so these all hit home with me again.

Heck I'm still into the music, that's my favorite night to go out clubbing here when they do the 80s thing and they have 2 80s night shows on the radio here that I love to listen to. Not to mention the fact that in the past 3 years I've gone to see Duran Duran 7 times.

My big fashion statements were trying to copy whatever style Duran was into at the time, layering my socks over the cuffs of my pants to match my shirts along with my white "jazz shoes", and Swatches (I still have my entire collection) oh boy did I love my Swatches and liked to wear them all at the same time up and down both arms.

I was a little late bloomer with the big hair (even with short hair I kept it big), but I had that as well...this is a pic from the early 90s even and I still couldn't ditch the hair (lots of Aquanet necessary to keep this up!!) .

I spent half of the 80's on the small island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands working as an electrician. This island is 3 miles long, and one half mile wide. Pretty much dead center of the Pacific ocean. Also partied my ASS off!!!!!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" -- Steve Parker

firegirl...I still have some of my tapes that were made that way. Granted they are all stretched out and sound funky now but I can't bear to part with them.

Well in the early 80's I was in college and did all that....we were big into the ripping up perfectly good sweatshirts and tee shirts to do the flash dance thing, also went through the preppy thing (still have the official preppy handbook somone gave me as a joke) Luckily missed the big hair thing, never had the patience to grow my hair long enough.

I had huge hair, and yes, wore the bandanna just above the knee. I owned a bunch, but my favorite was the Japanese "rising sun" as I recall.

And I had a ton of tapes made my holding the recorder up to the radio.

    Japanese rising sun?
    That sounds very "Karate Kid".

Those tapes we used to make invariably had someone talking faintly on them when you played them back.
