Where I've lived for almost fifty years:
    Home of Elvis
Where Martin Luther King was killed
A ten year old Pyramid arena which will be empty after this year, still owe 32 million on it
A big new basketball arena, being paid for by the city/county but run by individuals who make all decisions
    The home of Federal Express
The home of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
Oh, I almost forgot a river park which has nothing going for it now that all the restaurants have closed.
    And a really beautiful riverwalk

Calgary Stampede!! Although I don't attend because using animals for entertainment doesn't sit right with me.

And more recently, Calgary is known as the Fan support city of the world! And the REAL winners of the Stanley Cup!! The Red Mile ..... 60,000 to 100,000 people crowding downtown streets after a win during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and everyone wearing red. What an amazing sight it was, and the noise! Fun times.
Darn Kangaroos!! I am le tired.

Glad I started this thread, some fascinating facts.

Clipse, I've family in BC and we were talking about "Surrey Sluts" recently, so Surrey's fame has certainly travelled.

Been thinking about some other things Belfast is famous for:

Samson and Goliath, two enormous yellow cranes in the Harland and Woolf shipyard which dominate the city skyline

Crown Bar, a 19th century bar, which all visitors must visit. It's a listed building owned by the National Trust. Check it out on the web. It's even got a webcam. A "real" Irish bar!

Birthplace of Van Morrison. He wrote a song Orangefield, about the area he was brought up in.

    Queen's University, nationally renowned university

Thats priceless. I have a bunch of friends back in Surrey, luckily none of them have turned into that. I went to a party there a year or so back and am not going back. Those girls are Dirrty. Thats right, I used a Christina Aguilera line

The original Surrey in England is considered quite posh, how ironic!
