What a great thread! I love reading about everyone's home town.

My town is famous for creating basketball, Wilt Chamberland, and the Jayhawks. Lawrence KS
I very much believe in rescuing animals, not buying them.

My hometown was famous for being one of the largest cattle producing areas of Florida at one time. It was also famous for several notorious gunfights (one of which involved my grandfather) and for what they called "range wars" or cattle wars before barbed wire was invented. Frederick Remington also painted some of his "cowboy" paintings there. This area of Florida at one time resembled the old west for the cowboys, cattle, etc.

Arcadia, Florida is where that is.

It was also famous for having 2 WW 2 flight training fields and one WW One flight training and testing fields. And successful tests of the "Kettering Bug" took place there in the first World War. The Kettering Bug was an unmanned flying bomb that was designed in Ohio, but tested in Florida.
There is one in the Smithsonian and it had information about its testing in my hometown in the display.

My new hometown is probably most famous for being the birthplace and place where Shoeless Joe Jackson got his start playing baseball for one of the Textile Mills athletic teams before being discovered.

It's also the birthplace of another Jackson: Rev. Jesse Jackson.

I think a lot of us find those stories fascinating. I just wonder what wiring has gone wrong in the brain to produce that kind of individual.

Gabriel, dont forget, your hometown also has the "beer that made Milwaukee famous"-Schlitz
