What's your home town famous for?

Interested in this because when people think of Belfast they think of one thing. The "Troubles." But things are now so different in the city it got me thinking about other things Belfast is famous for.

1. C.S. Lewis, author of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was born here.

2. George Best was born and grew up in Belfast. The most talented footballer of his generation who didn't even come close to fulfilling his potential.

3. The Titanic was built here.

4. The friendly welcome we give to visitors from all over the world.

So what is your home town famous for, good or bad.

Singapore (a country) too small, hence I'll just consider it at my Hometown , famous FOR:

1. Banning Chewing Gum
2. World Largest Fountain *the fountain of wealth* (Guiness Record)
3. Best Airport
4. Cleanest Country (a few years ago, in the record)
5. Chicken Rice (good local dish)
6. Still does capital punishment "by hangings"
7. Some schools still use the canning for punishment methods (but it's quite rare now)
8. Good business Hub (internationally)
9. Singapore aka Asia's port

All I can think of for now, might post some later (when they come to mind)

My hometown, where I spent most of my life (not birthplace) is Eagle Pass, Texas, a smallish city in South Texas that borders Mexico. It's known for:
*having the most corrupt politics in Texas
*the location of two major films (Like Water For Chocolate, Larry McMutrey's Lone Star)
*our International Bridge spans the cleanest stretch of the Rio Grande
*the birthplace of nachos. Local restauranteur Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya had the snack of chips, melted cheese, beans and jalapenos labeled with his nickname after he became known for serving them to patrons who were impatiently waiting their orders at his restaurant. He eventually sold the concept to a larger corporation who massmarketed a simpler version. The Anayas gave me a Pekinese when I was a kid ;D

My hometown of Holland, Michigan, is known (of course) for the Tulip Time Festival, which is ranked the #1 small town festival in the US, and at one point in the 90's was rivaling Mardi Gras in attendance.

You know it's big when a town of 30,000 people gets 200,000 visitors for a week.

We also have a higher "billionaires per capita" ratio than any city in the US. We have 4 billionaires living in our town of 30,000 people. I guess all that means is that the city won't have to worry about going broke for a while

Albuquerque is known for:

The Annual International Balloon Fiesta which is pretty amazing - you should try to be here the first week of October if you ever get the chance!

Being in a Partridge Family song and a Glen Campbell song (he actually lived here and sang on my dad's radio show)

Having the airport closest to Santa Fe!

I can think of other stuff that's cool once you get here, but nothing that I'd say we're famous for.

My hometown of Denison, Texas, is the birthplace of Dwight Eisenhower, though he never really claimed it because his family moved to Kansas when he was an infant. The home is a museum now. I've never been there, even though I've lived in Denison since 1969.

My hometown of Homer, Alaska was home to three relatively famous people:

1. Jewel (the singer)
2. Tom Bodett ("We'll keep the light on for you.")
3. Me

OK, maybe I don't count YET. But I'll get there.
