I get on to the internet with Mozilla Firefox. One day it works, the next it won't. It's really weird-I get on to a blank page, type in the address (Spelled correctly) and hit enter. Some days it works, some days nothing happens.
    Any suggestions?

OpenOffice is around a 60MB download. On dial-up, that'll take around four hours. There are links at the site where you can buy a CD.

You can also try un-installing then re-installing Suite Works. Be sure when you do re-install not to pick the default option; there should be a "custom" option somewhere. That will enable you to see what exactly is happening.

Could you give us more details - is this with all sites, or only specific sites? Does it happen only with Firefox or with other browsers as well?

This is with every site. And Firefox is the only browser I use, so I'm not sure what's going on.

It sounds like it could be trouble with your Internet connection. I suggest contacting your ISP and asking if anything is wrong in your area. You could also try running another browser - I'd never suggest using Internet Explorer as your primary browser, though. My second-favorite alternative browser is Opera. It used to be either pay software or ad-supported, but now it is completely free. You could try using that as well - it has most of Firefox's features, but it's not as neat and straightforward.

    Does this work?

    http://www.speedbit.com/

Next question.... has anyone used this type of software?

I have been thinking about ending my account with SBC/Yahoo dial-up, over a very serious issue of how friggin slow it has become. I had looked at using NetZero simply cause their dial-up is actually decent and loads pretty dang quick. (that is for dial-up)

But while roaming through the site given to me earlier...I came across this link for what looks like a miracle... an accelerator that is actually some type of software to be downloaded. Has anyone used anything like this before? And if so.. does it actually work?

I have had my current account/dial-up since 1997... when it was still Prodigy... before SBC/Yahoo came in and sucked us up. And the quality of the service has been in the crapper ever since.

SBC is not interested in maintaining their dial up... they are too busy pushing their horrible DSL service. So I have been looking at other options for dial-up... and AOL is not one of those options either. haha! So I am curious if this accelerator thing may help with the horrible service I have with SBC.

I'll just tag on to Gaby's question here. I've been getting offers for People PC and the monthly is half of what I'm paying now. Anyone have any info on them? I have MSN now and have no complaints other than the price: $21.95. I'm trying to cut back on my spending and every little bit counts. BUT, I don't want to innundated with spam. It's worth the extra $10 to not have to deal with that.

If you are looking to cut back what you pay for Internet access, Crit, and you're shopping around for another dial-up provider, give The List a shot. Stupid name, good idea. It's basically a comprehensive, searchable list of ISP providers. You can view the list by ZIP code then click on the name of an ISP for a profile of the company, which usually includes their pricing.

You'd be amazed at the number of options available beyond MSN and PeoplePC and the more well-known ISP's, but you probably knew that, considering your professional background.

If you want to read unbiased reviews of PeoplePC--or just about any product you can think of, actually--then give Epinions a shot. Here's the review of the PeoplePC ISP, for example. (My favorite review title: "PeoplePC: Use the interminable wait time to learn Hindi." )

Sadly, if it's too good to be true... it probably is. It won't help you load webpages faster; all it can do is download large files somewhat faster, but even then I don't think it will help much. It assumes that the problem is that the site from which you're getting the file is too slow and can't keep up with your connection. That's very rare. So no, it probably won't help. However, if your downloads are frequently interrupted, they can help by resuming the download where you left off. Firefox's download manager does this as well, but it can sometimes be flaky. IE doesn't do that at all.

Well thank you for that answer about the speed issue... I actually never have a problem with items not downloading in complete form. What I have issue with is the over all slowness of my ISP in the last year. I have done all the sweeps for spyware and such... and its been determine that is my dail-up service.

When I called and ask SBC about it... all they want to do is sell me their horrible DSL service. Which I had at one time at my office.. and had to get rid of cause it was nightmare. SBC DSL was in general a horrible service that was constantly down... I just keep hoping that my dial-up would go back to running a better speed. Which is not happening... (SBC dial-up is 9.95 a month... but be prepare for them to sell your email acct. to people peddling penis cream & Viagra.)

But on the up-side of SBC dail-up... I can always get online... never get kicked off. I just hate how slow it has gotten.
