At any rate, the element is usually less than $30, so it's a cheap fix. (I'm not really coming there for a vacation either, i'm getting surgery in Mexico, and could fly to San Fran free, so I'm doing that then making a cheap hop to San D.)

Okay, so that's not a great reason to come out west. That just gives you an excuse to come back when you're completely healthy!
I should probably do some research on my model of dryer and see how easily accessible the heating element is. I'm usually pretty handy, but this has me a little intimidated.

The whole reason we bought the front loader set was because my washer broke and we couldn't find the part anywhere. That model had been discontinued and we couldn't even find parts on E-bay....We ended up chucking the washer and giving the dryer to a young couple we know after we bought our new set. Anyway, my husband figured we were easily spending the monthly payment for the set at the laundry mat. Laundry for a family of five (one being an infant at the time) was so not cheap at the laundry mat.

Thanks all for the info on Colour Catcher. I'll have to look in my grocery store, I've never heard of them before.
I will tackle any job if I think I can handle it. My only obstacle at times is the physical part of any job.
I had a kenmore w/d for 22 yrs, I probably had them serviced, I'll say twice for the washer and the dryer at a very mimimal price. For reasons I don't want to get into, I gave them to charity and took a washer and dryer from someone else, that was only 6 yrs old. I figured, I won't have to worry about replacing them for many years! Wrong! I had the washer serviced 3 times in two years, and the dryer twice. The last time the washer had to get serviced, the motor went on it. Each time it was costing me $75-$100.
I understand the front loaders will only use sufficient water according to the weight of the load, that's why there aren't any water level indicators, mine is like that. Its way to fancy for me, but I'm getting used to it.
The Color Catchers are in a small-ish, flat box in the vicinity of the stain removers.

I wonder.....would the Color Catcher still work properly if you safety pinned it to one article? Like a washcloth? That way it wouldn't get lost in bowels of my washer.![]()

I put mine into a small, drawstring, net lingerie bag.

Most manufacturers have downloadable Manuals online, but I had a VERY old wonderful GE Dryer that I got as a hand me down from a relocating boss, and I just called GE and they mailed the manual to me. The people restoring my house after the fire destroyed that dryer and I really wish I still had it. I'm really not happy with the bells and whistles on the new dryer (LG) and the one feature I thought I really wanted (steam) I have used once in a year and the in-the-drum filter I wanted is inefficient.Originally Posted by Critical;4187865;
I do however like the HE Top Loader Washer (Whirlpool) which I think also manufactures for Kenmore.
By the way ... Color Catchers can sometimes be found in the section with the Fabric Softener sheets.

That's a good idea. Just don't pin it to a sock. We all know what happens to socks in the washer...Originally Posted by Poppy Fields;4190945;
