Re: The Oasis - A spot for FORT parents

Well, he absolutely HATES to call in, but . . . I told him this time, there's no discussion. He WILL call in when he gets there!

I just got back from the round of pictures. First we went to one girl's house. Then we went to her date's house, and then the kids got on their way. All the kids looked great - and SO grown up!! Where, oh where, did my baby go???

They're all good kids, and I know they won't do anything stupid. But I'll still feel better when this weekend is a memory.

Thanks for the good wishes and prayers.

Re: The Oasis - A spot for FORT parents

I was in the middle of mowing the lawn yesterday (sweaty, covered in grass clippings, in a groove) when my daughter called for me to pick her and a friend up. (Lazy a$$ed Dan interrupted his tv watching to bring the phone out to me). I hopped in the car and went to the pick-up point and they weren't there. I circled around and went through the empty church parking lot again - no girls. I was about to pull out onto main street and go home to call her when I saw them in my rear-view mirror. They had decided to take a walk after they called. I chewed her out on the way to her friend's house and the girl jumped out of the car without a "thank you" so I yelled, "You're welcome!" after her. That made my daughter mad and she threw some lilacs she had stolen out of someone's yard for me (hidden in her purse) out the car window. I can't even tell you how much covet lilacs this time of year. I planted some in my yard last year, but it will be years before they flower. So now we're both in a full-out funk and her birthday is Tuesday. I'm going to disappear with a book somewhere today and let her stew in her own juices. I was going to go grocery shopping last night, but was too mad and the two of them can fend for themselves with whatever they can find today because I'm too mad to reward them with food. Somebody shake some sense into me.

Um, I don't think you need sense shaken into you, sounds like its the two teenagers that need the shaking. I think you're handling it well. They are old enough to be able to feed themselves. You enjoy the book and time alone.

You read your book and have your alone time. Let the ungrateful senseless fend for themselves.

Re: The Oasis - A spot for FORT parents

It went great, gabriel. Thanks for asking. He rolled into the hotel after the prom a little after 1 AM. He said he had good time - his date had a good time - he actually danced, even though he said he wasn't going to. His date made him! (I just knew I liked her.) He had a good time over the weekend with his friends. They didn't get into any trouble (that I've heard about so far). He was home by about 1:45 on Sunday and was sound asleep by 2:30! I'm glad this is over until next year!!!

Re: The Oasis - A spot for FORT parents

My baby starts cosmotology school today. I told her this morning, this is the first day of the rest of her life and she said: "yeah, from now own, I'll get to work until I die".
But she's excited and we are excited for her. She's now left behind one part of her life and is starting on the next stage. And by the time she is 18, she'll have a skill that can be used anywhere, won't be a job shipped off overseas and once she's worked for a couple years, plans to go back and go to college. I think she's come up with a smart plan. She knows we can't afford to send her through 4 years of college and this way, she has the chance to work at something that is not minimum wage and help put herself through college in a year or 2.

Re: The Oasis - A spot for FORT parents

Give her a hug for me. Sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and will be learning a valuable skill. You know how popular those makeover shows are? I think it would be a good idea for someone to start a makeover business. Go in and get the hair, make-up, and clothes all at once. Think what a great treat that would be as a gift or special occasion, or just to shake things up. Does she want to own her own place or is this just a stepping stone?
