They told us that there would be some discomfort ie.. aching for a few days. Well to make a long story short she can not eat even the softest food without crying that it hurts to move her mouth. They also have a loop that comes down from the front that she is supposed to put her tongue in to swallow. She can swallow spit and drink but is having trouble swallowing solid foods. All she does is cry that it hurts and that she is hungry. We are feeding her milk shakes but even that, she says, make her teeth hurt. Has anyone had their kids go through this?

The Orthodontist's assistant said that if she is still having problems by Monday to call and they will probably take them out. I hate to stop treatment but if this doesn't improve I guess we have no choose but to stop and try again later.
Both my son and HIS so had to have expanders and it was a little hairy at first, but within a few days, pretty much back to normal. Surprisingly, they both preferred thin mashed potatoes mixed with gravy, through a straw. I think the warmth of the food soothed them or something. Does your daughter have to use the key to help expansion? Our kids did. That wasn't fun.

The best part? Having a place to share it where you know people genuinely care. Thanks to all who come here and contribute!

You should be proud Gut, that's quite an accomplishment for your daughter. Don't we all want our parents to be proud of us? So that gives us right to boast about our own children, I guess. as for me, I have no children to boast about yet.

That is just fantastic Gut! It's hard to imagine when they are being such pains in the butt that they will make us so chest-bustingly proud!

Thanks everyone! It will look even more official when she has her wings and name tag. She had just gotten the uniform from the custom fitters when the picture was taken. bbnbama - where did you get that pilot smiley? I would so love to send that to her!
