New Year's Traditions

What New Year's traditions do you follow and what do they mean?

We eat a grape for every stick of the chime (12) at midnight - That's supposed to bring in good luck.
Throw water out the window/door - to keep the bad spirits away.
Take a suitcase and run around outside of your house - for good travel.
Wear gold/yellow (the color-not dirty ;)) underwear - I really don't know. Maybe it is for wealth.

My family? We just sit around at home and watch the broadcast from Times Square on TV. We're boring, we know it, but that's ok. :lol

In Finland probably the most important new years tradition is to melt tin horseshoes, then pour it quickly to a bucket of cold water. Tin solidifies immediately and is then picked up to predict the course of the next year. For example tiny bubble like rough areas mean money coming your way. Also the shadow of the piece is used to tell the future. It is fun :)

Not much tradition. It is my daughter's birthday so it starts with singing.

Mainly, we watch the Times Square festivities and relax at home. On New Year's Day, many here eat black eyed peas and greens(collard, I think) in hopes of good luck and financial prosperity for the upcoming future.

We always spend it as a family. My dad used to work nights on almost every holiday. So, we used to go and spend the midnight with him at work. Now, he works days so we're going to snack and watch the ball drop from our living room downstairs. :lol

Goodness, that sounds like a lot of work. :laugh We don't really have any traditions. I guess we are boring :shrug
