As a matter of course, I think it is a very good idea to not buy any food or personal care products that are made in China. Ever. I truly hope they develop a strictly enforced set of standards, but in the meantime I have no faith in any Chinese product that has the remotest means of making its way into my system. Or my boys systems.

Happy Remembrance Day everyone. It was the first one in Canada for my son since he was 5 years old. He was really moved by the ceremony at his school and the veterans in uniform. His whole grade wore black today with poppies and they brought a tear to many an eye. I love this poem so much and memorized it in Elementary school and it still moves me:

In Flanders Field, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

    n Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
    Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

canuck, your son had school today? My kids were off - they had their Remembrance Day service yesterday. I assumed that all schools across the country were closed.

He had Friday and Monday off. It's a private school so it's probably different

We had to memorize that poem in elementary school as well. Such a powerful piece.

    Hey fellow canuckunucks!

Who else is planning on watching the GREY CUP FINALS on Sunday??!!!

Calgary Stampeders vs. Montreal Alouettes -- who are you voting for?

I, of course, must vote for the West, even though it is almost unthinkable to be cheering for the Stamps (being from Eskimo-town).

McCrae was a doctor and he had been in surgery for hours. He stepped out of the surgical tents and sat in the back of an ambulance and just wrote that out quickly as he gazed out at the cemetary that was close to the field hospital. The graves were all covered in poppies. He threw it away and another soldier retrieved it and the rest is history. This poem inspired the sale of poppies to help disabled veterans. Something we continue to do to this day.

It is such a moving poem. I use it in my WWI classes.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GREY CUP CHAMPIONS ....THE CALGARY STAMPEDERS!!! WOO HOO!!

It was a great game to watch; close; low scoring; and a fabulous crowd!! Congrats on a game well-deserved. (choke, cough, wheeze).

I honestly didn't think either side played fantastically (nor did I last year when the Riders won), I've just been programmed too much to dislike Burris to be happy he won!
