All I wanted was a 45, a stinking 45 - the record or the gun. I'd even settle for the damn malt liquor. - Al Bundy.
They really do a great job of capturing Canadian humour.
Hmmm. So you guys say "zed," too, instead of "zee.""...it's zed, not zee. Zed."
How the hell did we U.S. Americans get "zee"? Linguistically, it makes no sense!

My husband, who is from Canada, refuses to just call it a 'Z' which leads to a lot of confusion when we play scrabble cube. In fact, the first time he screamed out use the 'zed' I was like "huh, what, who is zed?"... then we lost the game (as I was still searching for zed).
I actually saw something about it yesterday while online, but can no longer find the reference.Originally Posted by Ellen;3167310;
So I thought instead that I would post the text to Canada's favourite commercial ever, I Am Canadian:
Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader....
I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled....
and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada,
although I'm certain they're really really nice.
I have a Prime Minister, not a president.
I speak English and French, not American.
And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.
I believe in peace keeping, not policing,
diversity, not assimilation,
and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.
A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch,
and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!!
Canada is the second largest landmass!
The first nation of hockey!

My name is Joe!!
And I am Canadian!!!
All I wanted was a 45, a stinking 45 - the record or the gun. I'd even settle for the damn malt liquor. - Al Bundy.
I had forgotten what some of the words were. I think a lot of the Canadian pride commercials are fantastic. In a lot of ways they beat those heritage moment ones.
Thank you Rattus for bringing back good memories. How happy is everyone that we not only got a medal in Saturday Olympics but a set (Gold, Silver, & Bronze). I was up at 3am Edmonton time watching it on CBC and cheering and singing along to O Canada!![]()

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out. But I can usually shut the b*tch up with cookies. (Unknown)
I say zed and zee...half the time I can't remember which one is the Canadian pronunciation - that's American influence for you.
Bubba-Jo-Lyn - I am very happy that we've gotten some medals over the weekend. Very cool. I liked the Huyn (spelling?) woman who won the wrestling gold - she seemed very nice.

Live simply ~ Love generously~ Care deeply~ Speak kindly
Oh, I wish I'd remembered that line the other day. I used to live in Saskatchewan, and someone (from my hometown of Winnipeg, so I can't even blame this one on a non-Canadian) actually said to me, "Oh, my friend so-and-so lives in Saskatoon" and then looked at me expectantly like I just might have happened to run into them during the few years I'd lived there.Originally Posted by Rattus;3167460;
