I don't recall which network it was on but I know it wasn't late. It was a commercial for "his" and "hers" lubricating gel. It is shot while she is in bed and she explains how they both get what they need from it. I am glad my son wasn't in the room with me, that would be hard to explain but I have a feeling he has seen it on his own. I wonder what goes through their minds when they see these ads!

I'm going through a bit of an insomnia phase and up watching reruns of Law & Order SVU. What ad runs during this sex crimes show? It starts out sweet, a small boy missing his dad, who is away for presumably work reasons, and his mom comforting him. Then she goes into another room and finds a present from her husband/boy's father...a Trojan adult toy. Look, I'm no prude, but it is all kinds of inappropriate to have kids mixed in for adult stuff. There are other, far more humorous, ways to go. I want to sic Stabler and Benson on the Trojan people right about now.

    Re: Inappropriate Commercials

The sex related commercials don't bother me much since I figure if the child is too young to get it, they are too young to get it.

What really bothers me are the violent commercials. For some reason motor vehicle companies think it's cool to show their cars driving like crazy, speeding, running over things, slamming into walls or off cliffs, or exploding. I'm not sure why they think this is a good thing. Rogue has a disturbing one on bad driving too. Damaging or destroying the vehicle seems to be quite popular in these commercials. I think it's very unwise and makes me wonder who in the hey is creating these ads and who is approving them from the car companies.

Then there's this one about tangerines. The parent wants a tangerine, but the kid is selfish and bullies the parent to not eat one, so they can keep all the tangerines for themself. And the kid downright mean to the parent about it. WTH is this? The kid is treating the parent disrespectfully and being selfish at the same time. CRAZY stuff, IMO. The message they want is that their tangerines are so great, but that is overshadowed by a mean, bratty kid. lol

During a NASCAR race that my husband was watching a couple of weeks ago my 5 year old granddaughter apparently saw an ad for Viagra and asked me what an erection is.
When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "Happy." They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life. - John Lennon

Oh, those commercials get on my nerves BIG TIME! If I was the parent and my kid said that I'd be like "Listen, you little snot--Who goes to work every day to pay for our groceries? I do! I'll eat as many of the damn things as I want!"

Kraft macaroni and cheese had commercial like that, too, with the kid getting on to his mom's book club for eating "his" macaroni and cheese.

I don't find that kind of disrespect funny and it teaches kids to have a sense of entitlement they shouldn't have instead of sharing.

And I must say I don't care for condom/viagra/bladder control/lubricant/vaginal burning ads, either. Some things are personal and don't belong on tv.

    Re: Inappropriate Commercials

I agree about the bratty kids commercials. I don't find them cute, funny, or anything else positive relating to the product. I find them offensive, & kids watching these are pretty much being told how to act like obnoxious brats & get what they want. Not good.

Also, regarding sex related products in commercials, I've seen some I didn't mind. They were handled tactfully without being too obvious.

But there's one on now that skeeves me out. The dad is going on a date. The grown children keep making awkward comments to him with irritating smirks on their faces. Finally the grown son very obviously gives his dad a condom before dad leaves on his date, once again with the irritating smirk. They make a point of showing the condom package to the camera.
I just want to scream when I see that commercial. The moment it starts I change the channel before it gets too skeevy.

First off, dear old Dad is certainly old enough to know about protection & how to handle his own life & dates. Having his son do that is just creepy. Dear old Dad is no youngster. The guy looks in his 50's - 60's.
Second, if the woman isn't allready covering, or ready to cover, the whole protection situation, he's got a really bad choice of women at his age. Giving dear old Dad a condom is a bit pathetic.
All that's missing is for Son to say: "Go get 'er Dad!!!"

If one of my children ever did that to me I'd say "What the h*** is the matter with you?????? Mind your own business?"

Oh gosh, I hate that Trojan commercial too. I feel like slapping that son upside of the head every time I see the commercial. Also agree about the mac and cheese (Kraft) and the tangerines (Halo) commercials. Why are they glorifying brattiness/selfishness?

    Re: Inappropriate Commercials

I bet these companies have gotten an ear full from parents about how horrible it is to glorify bratty, selfish behavior in children.

Ref the condem to the dad commercial. Maybe dad hasn't been out much and the older kid wants to protect his inheritance against a golddigger lady who would like a baby to share in the estate. Like Beyonce Knowles daddy. lol (Not that she needs his money, but you get the point.) Older men sometimes aren't that bright. (Simon Cowell) lol
