I know, I should have known better!

One time my husband & I went to Europe for three weeks, and our only cat at the time - a very shy Siamese - stayed with my parents. They were terrified she would get in the garage. Well, the inevitable happened. My mom left the door open to the garage for a short time then became convinced the cat must have gotten in because they couldn't find her. She rearranged the whole garage looking for that cat, and eventually they gave up and prepared themselves to tell us the cat was gone for good. They still put food & water out in the garage but had lost hope.

After a few days, a friend of theirs came to visit who's a veterinarian. She's one of these people that has a great bond with animals. They were chatting when lo and behold, a Siamese cat comes trotting down the stairs to greet the visitor. After that, they kept putting out food & water and didn't panic when they didn't see any trace of her. She remained in hiding until we got back.
