god, i have such an incredibly addictive personality...let's see:

    cigarettes
    cappuccino
    internet
    video crack
    men
    food
music (tori amos, the dresden dolls)
and i have recently developed quite a fondness for my vicodin script - though i don't abuse it, i do enjoy it entirely too much.

i don't tend to drink too often, but when i do i have no idea when to stop...and i've never done drugs at all...

I have a very addictive personality, although it's mostly harmless stuff. My main addictions are COFFEE (without my daily gallon of strong, black coffee, I turn into a grumpy, horrible version of me. It's not pretty), books (Take away my books and that less-than-flattering version of me is back. In fact, not having something to read is even worse than not having coffee), music, TV shows (shows I have to watch include Gilmore Girls, Lost, America's Next Top Model, Six Feet Under and, of course, my precious X-Files DVDs), horror movies (the gorier, the better) and long, hot baths. I'm very fond of beer and wine, but these days I have a total of maybe three drinks a week - I find that a) getting older and b) losing a lot of weight has turned me into a weakling, alcohol-wise. Four beers and I'm out. Never smoked, although I did try when I was nineteen and living in England. I was the worst smoker ever; I never managed to smoke in that cool, nonchalant way that James Dean did. Having said that, if I had continued smoking, I definitely would have been addicted to cigarettes eventually. Given my family history of lung cancer, it's probably a good thing that I never tried harder to become a smoker.

My addiction to these things go hand in hand with my tendency to be über-passionate about everything I love. I've never thought of it as a negative trait, since my addictions tend to be fairly harmless.

    Re: Do you get addicted?

Oh jeez. Just came across this thread. I need to confess to this, as I deny it with my friends.

My name is Stephanie, and I am addicted to Pepsi. Not the caffeine. I can't drink any other soda or coffee. It started last year. I was at a convience store, and I decided that I'd push how much my mom would let me get away with by buying a 1-liter bottle. The next week it was 2. The week after that, 3. I was doing 3 liters in as many days. I was able to almost completely cut the habit over the summer, but then, I was at a water park, and I ordered a soda. The small was 44 oz. Should be plenty. Then the medium, for 25 cents more, was 64 oz. But no, I went for the large. 72 oz. I chugged it right there, never even made it the quarter mile back to my blanket (keeping in mind that I walk a 12-minute mile). I picked up the habit again in September, and, just recently, I've started downing 3 12-ounce cans a day. Just this past Wedneday, I hit a new low.

I purchased 2 12-packs, fooling myself into thinking that I'd drink one, and take photos of the other. I brought the second one home, and put it in a dark, wet corner of th ebasement, thinking that I'd take photos tomorrow. Now, here I am, at 10:30 at night, I just tore open the box and I'm drinking one. I had 20 ounces with dinner, I can't even go 12 hours without it. I know it's not good, and I know it's not the caffeine that I'm addicted to. I try to quit, and the world slows to such a crawl, I can seriously hear the second hand on the clock moving in slow motion. Weaning myself doesn't work, I always say that one more won't hurt, then, WTH, another one can't be all that bad. My friends want to stage an intervention, but they're all scared of me without my Papsi, and even more scared of me, because I'm a total b*tch when my Pepsi is taken away.

I'm starting to get concerned here...my dad has been doing the same thing for 35 years now, he's 50...am I going to be this bad forever?
...And the strange boy continued to weave in and out of her life, leaving her with a sense of wonder and amazment, but also, a feeling of loss, knowing that life might never be the same again.

    Re: Do you get addicted?

Coming from a family where almost everyone is addicted to drugs or alcohol...I have to be very careful. I drink, but only socially..I don't smoke. I am addicted to my computer, Coca Cola, and the Sims2 (PC video game). When I had my tubes tied...they gave scripts for Percocet and prescription strength Ibufrofin. After two days at home, I flushed the Percocet and kept the Ibuprofin. I didn't want to take any chances.

I am addicted to diet caffiene free coke.
    And coffee.

And no, its not about the caffiene apparantly. I really don't like to drink water. I never have. I try to force myself, but its hard.

I also get addicted to various foods for weeks at a time and then move on to something else. My current addictions are beans and cornmeal (as in cornbread, polenta and grits).

I am addicted to House, Lost and Real Time with Bill Mahr.

I also confess an addiction to the food channel. It's like porn to me!

Sweetie are you really only 14? That's way too young to have any kind of "addiction". I'm being totally serious. You may not think it's the caffeine but it very well could be. What do your parents say about this? Are you overweight? Because pop will really put weight on you after awhile. You really need to find an alternative beverage. Too much pop isn't good for you. I mean this all in the nicest way.

    Re: Do you get addicted?

Grrrr the whole soda thing is the bane of my exsistence. My DH is addicted to soda. But I only buy him diet stuff. My kids are too. But again, they only get diet soda at home. I drink one caffine free diet pepsi a day. When I was a kid, we never had soda. Once a month we would get a small soda when we went into town so I never developed the soda habit.

But. My addictions are cigerettes. God I wish I could quit. It is ssooo hard. And sweets. My other addiction. I love chocolate. And well, any kind of sugar-except in soda.

Then there are certain reality shows. Survivor, TAR, AI, BB, etc. All you other addicts know what the initials mean. This is a fans site after all....
I very much believe in rescuing animals, not buying them.

No, I'm not overweight--underweight, if anything. At 5'4", I'm 95 pounds-ish... And my mom doesn't like it, my dad doesn't care. And I do know people who are my age and addicted to things--drugs, alcohol....I thought that I was too young to be addicted, too, but then in health class there was something about 'never too young to become addicted.' I guess it was it's harder to become addicted when you're younger, but it can happen.

    Re: Do you get addicted?

Stephanie the point is, do you WANT to do something about this? I would think you do if you're posting in this thread. I'm sorry your parents aren't more supportive, if you were my daughter you would drink caffeine free diet pop over any other kind of pop. Have you tried diet pop? It's an acquired taste but if you force yourself you can do it. Personally, I have to have diet pop, I can't drink regular. I and I'm sure lots of others are here for you if you need us!
