Same here, but the big grey box doesn't magically transform into a chat room. This is so frustrating. I think it could be my browser, which is an extremely old version of Internet Explorer.

It'll change into a chat box after a while. It usually takes mine about 5 minutes... but it will eventually change.

unless its IE 3 or below it should be fine, as its a Java App.

I use mozilla which is free and works on all systems.

Does your ISP use a firewall that blocks java?
using the latest JRE? http://java.sun.com

Or if you're unfortunate like I am, your company blocks all chatting technology and you can never join the chat when everyone else is on it. Oh yeah, except for the programmers and techies in my company, *cough, ahem* who play games *cough, ahem* and chat all the time because they know how to get around it *cough, cough* :rolleyes
