I adored my art teacher, she was one of the teachers I kept in touch with for a very long time.

Baking bread from scratch... the first time in a long time. It's in the oven now and smells so good!

Re: What simple things make you happy?

I'm driving down the street near the hospital where I work, and I'm badly in need of a smile or a little pick-me-up.

Just as I'm thinking that, I pass a truck parked alongside the road. The driver's window is facing me, and the driver-side window is rolled all the way down. Resting on the door is the tiny, fuzzy head of a small dog, calmly looking around the street. His owner, sitting in the driver's seat, was wearing glasses and an old-timey "newsy" cap and whispering in his dog's ear.

There's something about that imagery that is calming to me even now and brings a smile to my face.
