When I first held him in my arms he just became very still and "stared' at me. I know that babies can't really focus yet but I was talking to him and it was like "Hmm, this is a different voice" and he was very calm. My friend in Arizona was living with me when her baby was born and I used to hold her and talk to her all the time for the first three months of her life. She moved back to AZ and I didn't see her again for over a year. When I first arrived in Az on vacation Mallory came to me almost immediately and let me hold her which her mom said she never did with strangers. I firmly believe there as an imprint that occurs at birth with those that are around on a continual basis with infants.
