The first reality show I ever watched was Big Brother 1
I have to say I'm in the minority when saying it was my favorite
Personally I watch for different reasons. I like to watch Survivor and Big Brother to see what people will do for both their 15 minutes and for some cash. Then laugh at them.
I watch The Amazing Race because I think it is fun. I love the places they go. I also like to laugh at these guys too, but over all I think it is of better quality than many others.
For me the message boards came after looking for someone to talk about BB1 with. No one I knew outside of my immediate family watched. After finding the boards and reading about Survivor etc. I decided to watch that, so I could join in on the conversations!
I have yet, with the possible exception of some of the BB1 contestants, to see anyone I would consider "real", so I actually do not agree with the term "reality TV" at all. To me they are just game shows.

They're easy to laugh at and make fun of, most of them are practically begging for it. And, it makes me happy to know that I don't have to deal with them on a daily basis.

I like the fact that the contestants are just (on the whole) regular Joes.
I know many contestants have appeared on reality shows looking for fame and fortune (in whichever order).

    It's unpredictable. And usually interesting.
If you go through a lot of hammers each month, I don't think it necessarily means you're a hard worker.
It may just mean that you have a lot to learn about proper hammer maintenance.

    Compelling social experiment.
You can (most of the time) identify with one of the contestants.
They don't get paid 1 million/episode like the Friends brats.

    BF ITA!!
It's like watching a psychological experimet live... and it is completely unpredictable. As opposed to all other shows, it has a life of its own. I watch TAR and Survivor (and the Mole).
I would never watch Fear Factor, Big Brother, Bachelor, and whatever other ones there are out there, so I'm guessing the ppl who watch those shows have other reasons....

I watch Big Brother. One of the reasons I like it is that it's so easily to get addicted to as you can watch it in real time. (Online)

But it's probably the most unpredictable. As long as there is an interesting mix of people on it, I'll watch.
