I hesitate to do this because it might jinx them, but I have to support my Tigers!!! Sweeping the Yankees in Yankee stadium!!!! Haven't done that since 1966!!!

I like and collect flamingoes. But there's a story behind this:
I grew up in Milwaukee. On the Polish south side of Milwaukee (at least while I lived there), there were many houses with tacky lawn ornaments -- especially those damned plastic pink flamingoes -- all over the place. And I used to joke about them all the time. During my first year after college, I got a little garden apartment in a complex near 83rd? 85th? (I forget) and Capitol Drive that looked like lots of cottages divided into six apartments each, with each apartment on the ground floor with a lawn and some garden space. Cute, huh? Well, my friends and family kept telling me I should get plastic pink flamingoes for my lawn. I sweetly told them "no effin' way!" So one day I came home, and -- lo and behold -- there were two plastic pink flamingoes standing right there on my front lawn. I asked EVERYONE, starting with my mom and dad, I knew: "Did YOU do it?" And they all said, "No -- great idea; I wish I'd thought of it! -- I didn't do it." All throughout the year, practically everyone I knew sent me cards, coffee mugs, figurines, pencils, etc., with flamingoes on them, thus starting my collection. And it was the big joke in my circle of friends and family.

Then, a year later, almost to the day, I was at my mom and dad's house. Dad gave me an envelope of photos and said, "Here are the pictures of our last vacation." I looked at two or three and said, "I saw these already." Dad said, "Well, look at them again. It's good photography!" I said, "Anything to make an old man happy . . ." Dad whacked me upside the head. Halfway through the pack of photos, there they were: Mom and Dad planting the flamingoes on my front lawn! I said, "Hey -- I asked you guys if you did it, and you said no!" Mom just shrugged and said, "So I lied -- sue me!"

And thus began my liking and collecting flamingo stuff.

    Loved the story, Ellen!

How I chose my avatar is a pretty boring story. I didn't want to use any of the "premade" ones available on FORT (not that they're not pretty, I just wanted something else), and (this was back in 2003) I regularly checked up on the latest Idol gossip on the fansites and whatnot. Saw this one of Diana and Jasmine on an avatar page that said to take as many as we liked. I like Diana and Jasmine, so I took it...

... and have never changed it since then. I get attached to things
    2003-2008.
