    Skunk repellants?

It's summer. We finally get to leave our windows open and enjoy the fresh air and cool breezes wafting through our home as we sleep, right? Wrong.

Every evening I make sure all our windows are shut tight. If I don't, we are sure to be woken up by the stinky greeting of a pair of skunks that pass through our backyard every @@*%$$ night.

We installed an outdoor pest repellant from Sharper Image. It emits high frequency sounds that should keep critters away. The skunks seem to be deaf.

I don't want to hurt the skunks. Really. I would like them to lead a long and happy life. Just not here.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the skunks away? Are there repellants available? I need *gasp* fresh air *gasp*.

I know they sell caster oil to deter moles, I don't know if it would work for skunks. Also, if you have cats, you could try scattering their litter in the backyard - the odor of a natural predator might deter them - but that might not be any better than the skunks themselves. Also, I've heard that peeing around the edge of a vegetable garden will "mark the territory" and keep rabbits from going into the garden (more convenient for a guy to do, I imagine.)
Fox urine is supposed to repell skunks actually, you can buy it online.

Also, check your lawn for little holes - the skunks might be digging up grubs for food in your yard - if you get rid of the grubs, you might get rid of the skunks.

I can't promise anything, but some use strong moth balls to deter skunks.

Perhaps, you can call a local wildlife place, etc. for more information.

    Good luck!

Whenever I call a friend of mine and ask him how he is feeling, he says, "with my hands". It gets me every time.

How does he do that over the phone? Does he have long arms?

My smart a** comebacks get me in trouble sometimes. I tend to blurt out a comeback before I think it through all the way. One of my favorite magazines as a kid was Mad Mgazine with the "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions" section.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll try them all one at a time.

And, yes, I am desperate enough to pee in my yard.

The fox urine is the most intriguing thing.

    Unk, .
