Re: If you won the lottery.....

I don't understand it either. In the last couple of years, I've known a couple people that came into some significant money. Not lottery type millions, but enough to pay off debt, buy a house, etc.

Both are broke with nothing to show for it and one with a huge tax debt to the IRS.

I would put away an amount to "blow" and the rest would have gone towards financial security and independence for me and my family.

And if I ever do win the lottery, I hope I have the same plans and don't go hog wild.

$100K wouldn't do me any harm, especially if it wasn't attached to any media attention. I'd definitely be hush hush about it, buy only the things that i need and save the rest.
That way, i could buy all of the sunblock/cooling lotion/cocoa butter i wanted.

I think that was on the E! Channel. I don't get how those people not only squandered the whole thing away, but managed to find themselves more miserable than when they were broke. Only one couple seemed to be holding it together.

On one of those specials, this one guy was showing off his elaborate and tacky house decorations and after each thing, he made a point of saying how much it cost. "I got this lamp in Russia. It's one of a kind. It cost me $500,000." "This carpet was handwoven by Belgian orphans and set me back $57,000." Stuff like that. I wanted to pummel him.

If he is the same one I am thinking of (skeevy looking, right?) I saw a special made after that special and he is almost broke, too.

I don't want the media attention either, so my plan is to hire a lawyer, set up a family trust, have the lawyer claim the prize money in the name of the trust I set up. If my name were to leak out, by then, I would have moved and gotten a new, unpublished phone number and my address of record would be my lawyers and ANY solicitations, publicity would have to be handled through his office.

Yes, you can see I've put thought into this. I'm all ready. Just waiting on those winning numbers.

Hmm . . . A trust is a good idea. I think that I'll call mine the "Stripper Endowment Fund."
