    Quinn vs. the Gator

I was out Sunday morning on my weekly long run- i had just started my run (on the sidewalk), and was only about half a mile from my subdivision... now it had been raining for 5 days straight, the grass was tall, and there is a wooded wetland nearby... so as i am running, i am looking in the grass- just to keep an eye out for anything (water moccasins, rattlesnakes, gators, etc.)- hey i live on the eastern frontier of Orlando- we have things like that around... and all of a sudden out of nowhere, right underneath of me is an 8 foot aligator staring at me with his mouth open (not moving, just staring)... he was literally right underneath me hiding in the tall grass... so i jumped at him (instinct??), yelled (AAAHHHH)- and jumped back into the street (and almost got run over by a pick-up truck)- Does the gator turn and run? NOOOOOOO, he's still staring at me, and he finally turns and books it back to the woods... the whole encounter lasts maybe 8 seconds, but now i know how long 8 seconds feels to a bull rider...
I am going running tonight- but i am taking my digital camera with me- just in case my buddy is around and i can share him with you all...

was just wondering if anyone else has had weird encounters with wildlife?

I've had a few interesting gator experiences myself, Quinn. I know the feeling.

    Wow! What an experience!

We don't get that kind or upclose wildlife experience from where I live.

I saw a shark once when I lived in Hawaii! He didn't make that da-da-da-da noise though.

Alligators always look like statues to me. I'm not sure if I would have been afraid or not. But I probably would've been.
When you're ten years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again. - Jack Handey

Well, this is kind of embarassing, but I had the exact same experience once with a possum. I was little and I didn't know if it would bite me or attack me or what. So, we just had a face off until it ran away! Okay... I admit it... I'm a wimp!

I was on a trail two miles from my house a few weeks ago and came upon a 5 foot rattlesnake, but he just rattled and I stayed out of range. It's not like I looked down and he was right under me like Quinn's gator.

If you run into him again Quinn, be sure to hold the camera with the arm he doesn't eat.

Oh, on Monday morning a guy in my office came limping into the office. I asked him what happened and he said "I was riding my motorcycle last night and hit a deer." Gah!

I've run into a few snakes, rattle and otherwise, but the only time I froze was the time I ran over (yes, I was in a car--but it was just a corolla--I was still in danger) the hugest rattler I've ever seen. It was so big, that even though it was all wavy (as opposed to straight) both my front tires ran over it, and the head stuck out for a few feet on one side, and the tail stuck out from the other side. It must have recently eaten, because it felt like a speedbump going over it. I was so petrified, that I was afraid to go forward and hit it again with my back tires. The person behind me (I was exiting a parking lot in the middle of North Phoenix) was honking, and I was ignoring her and trying to see if the thing was dead, but then after about five seconds, the giant thing slithered into a big oleander hedge next to the road. The person behind me stopped honking when it moved and she looked as scared as I did. As soon as it was out from under the car, I took off. Gives me the chills to think of it.
