    it sounds sneaky, i know.
but we had to do that with one of my lousy bosses. we had to add on our pay for unused vacation time or reimbursed travel expenses and bonuses that he had no intention of paying. it's not like it's stealing... i mean, it's our money, right? we earned it.

I do payroll. Hmmmmmmmmm... perhaps I should. We'll have to see.
If you go through a lot of hammers each month, I don't think it necessarily means you're a hard worker.
It may just mean that you have a lot to learn about proper hammer maintenance.

Sorry you had to deal with such a tough environment, Miss F - but a hearty congrats on the new gig. Sometimes we need an uncomfortable work environment to kick us in the butt and get us to make a move. That's what got me to leave California and move to Colorado. Well, that, and a really cute girl I met on a trip to Denver.

Here's my take; it can't hurt to ask about the bonus. Simply say "Remember the bonus you promised me for that extra work I did? Can I expect to see that in my final check?" If your boss says "Hell no." then politely say "Okay, I understand. By the way, I've done some thinking, and I'm afraid I won't be able to come in and help out nights and weekends as we discussed. Sorry."

That way, you give him a chance to honor his commitment to you. If he declines, he absolves you from the commitment you made to him. If he gives you what he promised, then you get a bonus! And either way, you've behaved in a completely professional and honorable manner.

Thanks guys for the support. I'm really glad to finally be moving on.

I hate being the bad guy, but my friends remind me that I have the power and all that is required of me is to be professional. I don't have to go over and above the call of duty.

I'd mention the bonus, but pretty much look at it as lost money. I'd also be really cautious about the woorking for them on weekends thing. They will probably take advantage of you. Maybe a clean break might be better for you.Listen to your friends.
Good for you finding a new, better place to go!

Congrats on the new job. I would add it in and when they say anything tell them its for the bonus they promised.
