Almost makes me long for the days of "rad", "gag me with a spoon" and "grody".

Along the lines of "axin" a question:

It is a desk... not a "deks"
The potent coffee drink is an espresso...not an "expresso"

When listening to an interview and one of these pops up I am always incredibly disappointed and change the channel. These workds are simply not that hard to sy correctly.

Never heard anyone say "deks" before.

Though I have to admit, I did think it was an "expresso". I don't drink coffee, so can I claim ignorance?

Since I live in the deep South, a lot of people I talk to have thick accents. It's funny sometimes hearing someone say "nat" for "night", "rat" for "right" "ass tea" for "ice tea" and making all one-syllable words into two or more syllables.

Now my dad is a Yankee (PA) and sometimes slips back into his Northeastern accent. The first time I heard him say "peanuts" (like "peanits") it sounded just like "penis" (Uh.. Dad...did you just say you wanted "roasted penis?"). And he still says "TORNament" instead of "TERNament".

Living in Texas, the proper way to pronounce the word "pecan" is "puh-cahn" Only "yankees" (hey, I'm originally from NJ, but have lived here since 1978) say it "pee-can" Sorry, but a pee-can is something you take on a camping trip!

I say pee-can but my brother says puh-cahn! We've grown up in the same town under the same house(well him since he was I think 8). How weird is that?

Do you say soda or pop where you're from? I say soda. But an hour and a half south of me they say pop. Who can figure it out?

I say soda. It's a regional thing, though I'm not clear where the regions exactly are. The first time I heard someone say "pop" it was out of the mouth of a friend's boyfriend who was a tough guy from Detroit. He looked all gruff and intimidating, and then the first time he asked me if I wanted a "pop" from the fridge, I wanted to die laughing.

Phat (whom I miss BTW) had a thread in here about regional dialect that was pretty funny and rather extensive. I'll see if I can find it, and post a link here.

I am a California girl, born here and still living here so, like, ohmigod my New York husband's family think I totally sound like a Valley Girl (but c'mon this is from people who say "youse" as in "I love youse guys"). But I also have mucho familia from Texas, so I know what southerners sound like with the "y'all" ("I love y'all").

The slang phrase I wish to retire currently is: "Chuuuu-u-uch" (as popularized by the hip hop slang maestro, Snoop Dogg).

grody rhymes with brody. Adrien brody. I swear that was what I thought you wrote.
