I had a similar experience, the nurse checked me again right after epidural was in and I was 10 cm. Thankfully she did not check me right before. The relief was enormous, everyone get it! Forget the natural birth thingy, you need your energy for the baby once she/he is born.

Best advice I got involved kids as well. My mother told me to never look back when bringing kids to day care. They cry, because they want to punish you, but if you turn back to comfort them, they will never give up crying. Just tell them bye, you'll pick them up in a few hours and walk away, they will be just fine.

In my 'long' life , I've been given lots of advice. I think the best were from teachers and my parents.

'Only do as much as you can handle.'
    'Don't over-commit!'
'CRISTINA, Keep your eye on the ball!!!'
'Trust yourself and others will follow.'
'It's not what you say but how you say it.'

And most importantly:'Don't bottle yourself up. If you have something on your mind, tell someone. Odds are, they're thinking the same things.'
MULDER: It's still there, Scully. 200,000 years down in the ice.

    SCULLY:
    Leave it there.

See my sig line. Granted, nobody actually gave me that advice (I just happened upon it online one day), but it rules. People are always so scared to look stupid. Pffft. Some of my favorite things in life have happened as a direct result of looking stupid. You have to live a little.

My cousin didn't get the epidural. But then she just had a midwife come to the house or something. And she named her son Ronan with a line over the "O". Like that's not going to be a pain in the ass for him the rest of his life.

There. That's all you need to know about my cousin. Now, guess what state she is from.

Oh yeah, still looking for that best piece of advice thingy.

Other advice I have been given

My father: Your either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Character is who you are when no one else is looking

My mother a little rhyme: Cobwebs die down dust go to sleep I'm
rocking my baby and babies don't keep

I have always remembered that and made sure to cherish every moment w/my daughter!

Oh my southern mother also told me to
Be a lady in the living room
    A chef in the kitchen
and a whore in the bedroom..
I was shocked when she toldme that one..lol

I love that one. I tend to spend a lot of time complaining, so I need to remember that from time to time.
If you go through a lot of hammers each month, I don't think it necessarily means you're a hard worker.
It may just mean that you have a lot to learn about proper hammer maintenance.

"Actions speak louder than words". Actually sounds more like a quote, but it is very true. Good advice.
